I hate the look of front-loaded garages, regardless of the pragmatism of such a feature. According to a well known book on things to use and avoid when designing a house, if you must have a front garage, you should set the garage back a minimum of 6 feet, and ideally 18 feet (so that a car can sit in front of the garage without stepping out.
If you don't like front garages, do you think the design below is fine? To my surprise, I kind of like it. (I don't mind smallish homes) ![]() |
HUGE picture.
Unusual design but I think it's pretty. I like the wrapped porch. |
Have to have at least double car. |
Yes, sorry about the picture |
That house has no design elements of substance so it really doesn't matter |
![]() OP, I like it. I really don't like front loaders, but at least this design minimizes the garage's presence in relation to the rest of the house. I also like the porch. It also draws your eye away from the garage. |
Here is the link to another picture (too large to post)

Nice, but you would still have to step out from the front door, no?
Can you explain this? |
20:57 here - if I was building on a small lot, this is the design I'd choose. The minimization of the garage is even better in this picture. I really like it. How many bedrooms are in there? |
This is the first floor plan (it's 60 long, not 80 long). ![]() |

4 brs, 2 baths plus attached garage on a small lot--sold. Good luck, OP. Makes me wish my lot was flat. - 20:57 |
Just notices - 3 baths! Even better! |
I don't like that the front door is tucked so far back. If there is a way to bring it forward, preferably out more than the garage door |
