rinsing quinoa

How do you rinse quinoa? My strainer isn't quite fine enough and I always lose some. Is there a better technique or do I just need a new strainer? I make it often and that part is annoying.

I use a sieve. I'm not sure how necessary it is to rinse it.

It's necessary because of the saponins (soap like) that coat the seed. No rinsing = bad smell and taste.

Some boxed products come pre-rinsed.

OP, I usually just rinse in my glass measuring cup. Swish around, let it settle, pour off the water a few times. I lose some quinoa sometimes, but generally it's fast and easy this way.

I just rinse in the same pot that I will be cooking. Pour water, rinse with your hand, let it settle on the bottom, and then drain most of the water. Repeat. Obviousely I don't drain all of the water, but its OK and less dishes to clean. I do the same with millets.

I use a metal sieve and it works fine. You can see how it kind of lathers up at first so it is clear that there is something on it that is being rinsed off.

For those of you who used boxed quinoa that says its pre washed and no need for rinsing, is that true?
