My son started in 9th grade this year. Has been great in all respects so far. He has made friends and been accepted socially. Teacher feedback and counseling has been great. Math is at various levels, as is foreign language. Academically he is being pushed, in a good way. The kids are nice to each other. Good diversity (race/ethnicity and otherwise). The kids work hard and have fun.

Thank you. Confirms what we've learned ...now for that pesky part about getting in.

Maret parent: What can you say socially about the kids in the upper school? Are most from priviledge w/a lot of money or is there some balance? We really loved school, but have been hearing some troubling grapevine rumors about outside school social activities. Wondering how to gauge.

Tx.

Obviously I don't really know everybody's financial status but my strong impression is that there are a very good number of kids whose families don't have "a lot" of money. The school does put a lot of emphasis on financial aid, I believe. And the kids I have met certainly don't exude an "upper crust" vibe.

In terms of outside school social activities, so far I have seen and been aware of really good interactions - including parties as well as just general hanging out. I expect that they are normal high school kids, which is to say that some will do some things of which not all parents would approve. Some might drink and/or smoke, especially when older. But I think that would be true anywhere. Certainly was true back in my high school.
