S/o best federal insurance plan for IVF? Still MD IPA?

I know this has been covered in years past but I am about to switch insurance. What is the best insurance plan offered to federal employees for ivf? We already have the diagnosis so no more tests needed. Just meds and the procedure.

Aetna is a strong contender, too. Not sure of the differences between the two, though. I would check both out. We had Aetna and used it for both our kids (needed IVF with ICSI both times).

Yes, but with Aetna you will pay $3000-5000 for the meds alone per cycle, as opposed to $150-300 with MD IPA, in addition to the fee for the cycle.

Exactly! You end up paying 2x as much with Aetna because they double the price of meds then discount them 50% so I ended paying over 5K a cycle for meds. Crazy!

Whoa. OP here. That's crazy!! What did everyone pay, all in, and what insurance did you have?

OP, if you search a few threads down, I posted a detailed list of costs with MD IPA at SGF.

Hey everyone - I have a related question. I'm in the last day of open season, and in the middle of a FET cycle that I have already paid for through MD IPA (costs about $1,700 with insurance at SG). However, MD IPA is $600/month vs my other plan (a PPO - covers much more in general) which is $320/month for family. The other plan only covers some meds related to IVF. I have 8 frozen embryos, and if this one doesn't work out (I had a miscarriage with IVF over the summer) I will have to do another FET cycle next year (assuming there are leftover embryos). I have gotten pregnant both times with IVF (one miscarriage, one kid) so I think I have a pretty good chance, but I am getting on in years...A FET cycle is $4,500 w/o insurance at SG, but I'd be paying $3,350 in extra insurance annually if I go with MD IPA, which doesn't do me any good if I do get pregnant. I'm wondering if it is worth betting that I will get pregnant for a better insurance that doesn't need referrals and covers my physical therapy (which would save another $1,500/month). If I don't get pregnant, then I will be out at least $1,000...but if I do get pregnant, I will be out $3,350 in additional insurance payments. Ack. Is it stupid to tempt fate and give up MD IPA when I won't be doing a pregnancy test for another month?
