| Although heather hills is a TAG school I would like to know if parents find this to be a great school or would you have left your TAG identified student in their local elementary school. For me the drive would be a little longer and I am sure I would need to get before and aftercare unless they have it. Just wondering before the lottery begins. Thanks for any feedback! |
| Our neighbors have their daughter in this school and love it. I believe they bus, so you wouldn't have to drive? |
| I am unable to comment on heather hills. However, my daughter went to Glenarden Woods. We put her back in her local school. There was so much work especially homework that she began to not like going to school. I understand that it is magnet but i want my child to be challenged and like school. I am not sure if Heather Hills is like Glenarden Woods but hopefully someone can share their experience. |
My info. is based on a friend who has kids there. They are very happy with it, but it does require a significant amount of at home support (reports, writing books, science projects, etc.). I have a child in a G/T program in another school district and I don't think there are so many substantive at-home projects compared to HH. There are quite a few kids there who are not really G/T material (i.e. not reading on grade level), so there are two tracks of kids --- and they are pretty much put in separate groups. If you are able to give support to your child then HH sounds like a very good education. If you are expecting it to just be an enriching experience during the day with minimal at home tasks, then you won't like it. |
| Same here, I have heard good things about the school. I believe they have a new principal so hopefully someone who still has a child in the school can shed more light. my daughter went a few years ago the only thing we did not like was the feeder middle school. |
| Any more insight into Heather hills. My daughter passed the TAG requirements and i am thinking about leaving her at the local elementary or TAG center. Are the TAG schools much better than the TAG program at your local school? |

Personally, I didn't send my child to the TAG center b/c I didn't want her going to Kenmoor Middle (the TAG school associated with Heather Hills). I didn't want her in Landover when our zoned school was Samuel Ogle.
Yes, it's doable, but I think if you're in Bowie, I'd stick to the Bowie Elementary Schools then do Ogle. They group the TAG kids together into Honors classes in middle school. If you're not zoned for a stellar middle school, then it may be worth a 2nd look. Just my .02. |
