Sad & lonely thanksgiving food for one?

Anonymous
Depending on whether this weather system impacts the roads on Wednesday, I may be spending Thanksgiving alone. It's ok. I'll be sad, but not a big deal.

Where can I get some traditional Thanksgiving food and fixings Wed/Thurs? Nothing fancy, but I'd be happy with some Turkey, stuffing, and cornbread.

Whole Foods? Fresh Market?

Balduccis. Good luck. I feel very lucky to have my family but would love one day alone with trash TV and good food and wine. Hope you can enjoy it if it happens!

OP, first, I'm sorry that you will be possibly alone on Thanksgiving.

Second, you will be alone because of a snowstorm, not because you have no one in your life. So please be thankful of that. Seriously--I was actually very relieved when I read the body of your post, after reading that title, and I thought, "oh, thank God, OP is upset about having to take a rain check on Thanksgiving, not that s/he has no one who cares."

Third, Balducci's! Or Whole Foods!

Balducci's is a good option. I would plan ahead and get everything I wanted, including some excellent wine and something fabulous to read. Then if you do end up on your own, make an occasion of it. Set the table nicely, use candles and flowers, and pour yourself something special.

Setting the table and candles is a nice idea. Have a festive soundtrack, nothing mopey and sad

Whole Foods definitely has everything you need.
I spent many happy Thanksgivings on my own in my 20s and early 30s. I would buy some prepared basics, rent a bunch of movies, buy myself a great 'beach read' type book and relax. I did NOTHING productive on that day and boy was it fun!

Boston Market. Order now.

Trader Joes has some nice looking stuff as well. Although one of the best Thanksgivings I ever had was getting Chinese takeout and sitting on the couch with the cartons, chopsticks, and a Clooney movie.

I agree, Trader Joe's has some friendly options for one person. You could also go to Giant and buy a lot of the instant stuff to make smaller portions. Otherwise, order now from Boston Market. Balducci's is good but be forwarned, picking up will be a shit show (at least in Maryland it is). Get some wine, a movie you want to watch. I personally would do take out Chinese!
Also, see if anyone else is around. Many of my friends to Friendsgiving on or around the actual day.

Whole Foods. Don't forget dessert!

If you have good friends that are staying in the area, let them know your situation. I'd be more than happy to invite a friend over to my crazy family Thanksgiving.

op here, thanks all for the great suggestions! and yes, I'm definitely looking for wine, dessert, and a candle is a nice touch!

For Balduccis and Whole Foods, how exactly does this work? Do they have a buffet? Will the hot bar at Whole Foods have Thanksgiving dishes? I'd rather not pay for a big family meal. Can I get individual portions (or maybe double, for leftovers)?

At Balducci's (and probably at WF too) they have a bistro meal. Main dish and two sides. Buying it the day b/f should be sufficient and it will keep in the fridge.

If you're near a Jetties, they pretty much have Thanksgiving in a sandwich (AKA Nobadeer):

At Whole Foods you can just buy from the prepared foods section, what you want, as much as you want. They had all the basics -- various types of stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, turkey, sweet potatoes, etc. Buy a small container, medium, large, etc. Just like their salads.
Pretty sure you have to buy a whole pie, though .

Balduccis and WF are both going to be super expensive. If I were you I wold just get Chinese or a Pizza, and maybe a pumpkin pie because I love those things (they're also RIDICULOUSLY easy to make on your own- it's basically canned pumpkin mix + condensed milk + pre made pie crust).
