| OP, I've spent many Thanksgivings alone (no local family, husband who works on Thanksgiving, no friends who invited me). I usually just went to a grocery store and bought yummy items from the deli counter, or did a pizza. This year it's just me, husband, ad baby, and we're just doing take-out from a restaurant. We weren't invited anywhere for Thanksgiving and our families are too far away to travel to and are not coming to us. |
they sometimes have mini pies too! |
| We are traveling to see family and, while I love them to bits, I would LOVE to have a holiday to myself. I find the Whole Foods sides to be just okay, (stuffing is dry) so maybe try one of the other options. Don't forget the wine! |
| Why not make your own? You could do a turkey breast, stuffing, mashed potatoes, etc. And then enjoy the leftovers for the next week. Freeze some for later. Make some turkey stew, turkey tetrazinni.. |
|
Why bother?
Honestly, turkey is kind of gross and it's not that big of a deal at all to not eat Thanksgiving dinner anywhere but your house by yourself. Really, it's just not. My fave Thanksgiving is when I had a slight cold and my sisters had newborns and were FTMs. They demanded I not come. I stayed home, at chinese and watched tv. No big deal. |
I would do take out Chinese, if I was alone. I'd order a lot of small appetizers, some noodles, a meat dish and some dumplings. Yum. I'd spend Wednesday watching all the poor souls on the road stuck in traffic.

| Balduccis. |
|
Balduccis and rent some chick flicks, sleep in, wear pjs and a fuzzy robe all day, drink wine, read a great book, nap...
I was alone one year on Thanksgiving. I did exactly those things, and it was kind of awesome. |
| I know you didn't ask for this suggestion, but if you like to cook, Serious Eats has a lovely idea for a one-skillet, one-hour Thanksgiving meal that you can whip up yourself! |
|
Trader Joe's. Get there quick, they do run out. They have smallish portions of already roasted turkey breast (leftovers make great soup!) Or at least that's what I'd do, since I LOVE LEFTOVERS and seriously would not mind eating turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes, stuffing and green bean casserole for 3 days. Whole foods is probably a better bet if you don't want any extras.

| I'm married with kids now but in my 20's I spent some Thanksgivings away from my parents/siblings. It was just me and my boyfriend - we cooked a turkey with all the trimmings and watched football. It was different not to be around a crowd but it was relaxing and fun. Not everything turned out gourmet but it was still o.k. |
| Maybe FaceTime while you eat dinner at your place while the people you were traveling to eat at their place? |
| Jetties,,,, Thanksgiving sandwich |
