If you had $500 to spend on some new spring clothes what would you buy?

I need help. It has been a long time since I have bought anything new. I am tall and medium build (size 6-8) if it matters. I do not work outside of the home. My children are 5 and 2

I'd buy:
one pair of nice fitting jeans - $80
two or three fun women's cut cotton t-shirts - $50
light cardigan type sweater to wear over t's - $40
lightweight sweater - $30 total
short sleeve blosue or tank - $30
a couple pairs of cotton pants in spring colors - $60 total
casual , just above the knee, skirt - $40
A pair of shorts - $30
Fun purse - $30
Nice yoga pants - $30
A couple shirts to match yoga pants -$50
A pair of cute flats - $40 total

There are a lot of sales going on, so if you end up with extra $$$, I'd get another pair of shoes and anotehr pair of yoga pants and shirt.

I'd add a really good bra. I just bought one for the first time ever (in a different size than I've been wearing all these years!) and feel great!

I'd get several really comfy interchangeable outfits from The Gap.

Good jeans, few sweaters, some t's with a great cut, a few pairs of capri's and a pair of pumas! I think with $500 you could get a lot more though, especially if you join the store website and get a coupon.

I'd get a nice trench coat. It will last you for years.

I have a coupon for 20% off of a $100 purchase at Banana Republic. 20% off $500 is an entire extra outfit. If you want it I'll pass on the code.

OP Here! Thanks this is helpful! I am interested in where people get good fitting tshirts, as was recommended. Gap? Thanks!

Gap, Banana Republic & J Crew all have awesome tshirts. Depending on the sleeve style and the length you like check them all out. I love the t shirts at Nordstrom as well but I do not think they are worth what they charge for them.

target has some great t-shirts too. some are not great, but i have some really nice ones from there.

Old Navy has some decent ones that will last one or two seasons before they get too stretched out - cheap enough that you can get several. I wouldn't pay more than $15 for a plain cotton t-shirt. I would pay a little more for one that had a little more style or looked a little "dressier"

OP Here: So do people where yoga pants as everyday pants to knock around in? With what kind of tops?

Yoga pants are for yoga. I totally disagree with that part of the first responder's post. Otherwise she's on target.

I think it is totally personal preference. I see women all over wearing yoga pants with a fleece or nice tshirt. They look very put together and comfortable. If you want to wear them then go ahead. If you are not comfortable with them then don't. I do not think there is any fashion rule on this. People wear sneakers when they are not exercising. It's whatever.

I wear yoga pants all the time, usually with a heavy, long sleeve cotton t-shirt. I think they look very clean and appropriate for running errands. Better than baggy sweatpants that I sometimes see out there!

If you want a cute t-shirt, not the basic monochrome that you'll get at BR, Gap, etc, I would head to some boutiques (Bethesda Row comes to mind if you live nearby).

You can get a cute t for $30. It's just more fun than everyday wear. Or check out Boden online. I bought a spotty t-shirt there last year that I wear all the time. I just feel a little hipper than when I'm wearing an all-white or all-black. Otherwise, a JCrew tee with something (buttons, ruffles, etc) adds some pizazz.

If you're shopping JCrew, I would avoid the "tissue t's". The fabric is sooo thin they're sheer, and IMO, they don't wear well or last long. Same goes for the ultra-lightweight cotton sweaters from JCrew. Waste of $$.
