Pressure cooker worth it for vegetarians

Subject line says it all. I envision using it for dried beans a lot, but would it be useful otherwise?

Black beans in pressure cooker = 40 minutes
lentils in pressure cooker = 20 minutes
split peas in pressure cooker =20 minutes

Worth it for me, I've never made anything except beans in my pressure cooker and I actually have 2 of them so I can cook 2 recipes at once.

You do have to be prepared for it to blow up every 10 years or so, but you just have to clean up a lot of bean water on the stove, better to have a glasstop stove for the clean up.

I make beans, dals, rice, dhokla, idli, various curries all in my pressure cooker. If you have a budget of ~$200, then an InstantPot is the way to go. It's a pressure cooker/slow cooker/rice cooker/steamer all in one.

Go to Amazon.com and buy Hawkins or Futura.

Indian non-vegetarians use it all the time too. There is an online cookbook too. Great recipes.

Veg family and we got one four years ago and haven't used it yet. I suppose I should figure out a use for it...

I do beans all the time. I pre-soak and set my electric pressure cooker from anywhere from 4 to 9 minutes (the Lorna Sass vegetarian pressure cooker cookbook has a great chart with cooking times).

I also do artichokes and risotto. Just these three things makes the pressure cooker worthwhile for me. I do big batches of beans and freeze them.

Definitely for beans. I usually cook lentils on the stove since they are so fast cooking. You can cook squash, rice, potatoes easily in a pressure cooker. Also quinoa etc.

When I went to Morocco almost everything was cooked with a pressure cooker. Lots of vegetable dishes not just beans.

OP again. So in a pressure cooker, can you cook beans that are not presoaked?

Potatoes (with onion, some oil & salt) made in a pressure cooker are so delicious.

OP, google Ms. Vickie's website for all the prep and cooking times of everything you can imagine.

I do the quick soak method (it came in the Presto instructions which cover every food category - I read reviews on Amazon and now have 2 different size Prestos - great quality and very economical compared to the others).

Any way, you cover beans with water, bring to boil for 2-3 minutes, turn off and let sit for I believe 1.5 hours. Rinse, make your recipe (you use less water than you'd think - basically just cover the beans) and 20 minutes later you are done.
