Can I freeze cranberry sauce?

Anonymous
I am preparing for my first Thanskgiving and am testing recipes. I just made this cranberry sauce. It's really sweet, but will probably be good for some guests who like a super sweet sauce. Can I freeze it until Thanksgiving? It has alcohol in it, which may or may not affect your answer. Thanks!

It should be fine in the fridge. I make a big batch and it lasts for at least 4-6 weeks.

I freeze cranberry sauce and it works beautifully. I haven't tried that particular recipe, but I would imagine that the alcohol is diluted enough (and mostly cooked off) that it wouldn't be an issue.

If you're concerned, freeze it in two sections - most of it in one container, and a small test batch in a separate container. In a week, defrost your test batch and try it. If good, the main container will be fine staying in the freezer for another week or two. If not, make a new batch a few days before Thanksgiving and refrigerate it until the big day.

Absolutely. It's usually the first thing I make.

Thank you! It's in the freezer now. And since I halved the recipe (my first time making both cranberries and this recipe), I can try again next week with a less sugary recipe. Thanks for your help!

NP here - i can't believe I never thought of this before! For some reason I'm always feeling pressure to cook everything for Thanksgiving that day or the day before. But this is a great idea. I love this happy forum.

OP here. Isn't it nice to receive help without snark? Anyway, thanks to the advice of PPs, one batch is in the freezer. A more basic batch is cooling on the stove. That, too, is headed for the freezer. Thanks, everyone!

I always freeze my cranberry sauce - works really well. Go for it, OP!

FWIW, you can do this after Thanksgiving, too (obviously). My husband *loves* what he calls "Thanksgiving sandwiches," so I usually freeze a bunch of leftover turkey and cranberry sauce so we can make Thanksgiving sandwiches in January.
