I wouldn’t say it’s blowing up. It’s more like dish of the day...it’s still fluffy level interest, not hard news.

Most people I know are asking each other if they've heard of Hilaria Baldwin, having a quick laugh over the story, and moving on to other topics. It's not really a big deal to most people.

She could have apologized and asked for ideas from everyone where to donate all the money she made. She could change her whole IG and just post occasionally-real normal photos with nannies if they allow. If she must be on social media she could update people with incites from her therapy and realizations about why this was problematic. She could re-invent herself as someone healing from mental narcissistic tendencies, social media attention, etc. She might get a deal from an one of those online therapy groups for advertising. She could make fun of herself on IG a bit.

YES! She needs help from Melissa Rein Lively (the AZ lady who trashed Target face mask display)... she’s actually a PR professional and has made a remarkable comeback from her mental health breakdown.

See, anyone can do it!

OK, I can't read 280 pages, but I am still not clear on why anyone cares? Has Hilaria parlayed some sort of faux-Latinx persona for $$, money, endorsements, roles, etc.? Is there any point to the "I'm from Spain" thing at all other than just some weird alterego-cosplay thing? How can it be a "grift" if there is nothing in it for you?

This seems on par with celebrities changing their name or fibbing about their age or high school experience.

But perhaps I am missing something (say, on page 174-76 of this!)

Clearly some of society feels this is perfectly normal and everyone does it, and some do not. So are you saying if you found out your husband or sister were creating a completely false persona and telling everyone it, you would be cool with it, everyone does it? Not disagreeing, would love to hear more of how you'd feel on this.

If my sister was going around telling everyone that she was of Slovenian descent and faking a silly accent and doing, I don't know, TikToks of Slovenian dancing, I'd think she was being an idiot, but that's about it. If she was lying e.g. on a job application to the Slovenia consulate about her "background" to try to fluff her resume, then that would be something else entirely. That's a con. The first is just silly. That's why I'm trying to figure out if Hilaria actually "got" something out of this. If not, then god help me I'm about to "defend" this ninny, and agree the public drubbing has been over-the-top.

So H wasn't lying to the companies that paid her? Interesting. Where did you read that? Poor Hilaria is a real victim in all of this

This is a great summary of her deceit, and it calls our DCUM and Jeff (kind of) https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.insider.com/hilaria-baldwin-spanish-controversy-public-life-timeline-2020-12%3famp

Secondly, it appears that those who are most aggressive about it seem to have limited reasons as to why they are angry. Nothing has happened other than a social media storm based upon nothing.

Social media can be a very very dangerous tool for some. Look at what happened in our government in these last 4 years. Just because someone writes something, it doesn't make it remotely true. This woman literally has not told one lie.

If I were the Baldwins, I would use social media to make it a giant exaggerated joke complete with impersonations of what real cultural appropriations look like. What Hikaria has actually done is not an example.

So many really impressionable and suggestable people is very concerning.

EXCLUSIVE: Hilaria Baldwin's $4M home where she grew up in Boston's posh Beacon Hill - as neighbors say she was 'just Hillary' back then, lived there full time until college and 'certainly didn't speak with a Spanish accent'

Yoga teacher Hillary Hayward-Thomas — who has long pretended she was born on the Mediterranean resort island of Majorca and only spoke English with a pronounced Spanish accent — instead spent almost her entire childhood in the Beacon Hill district of Beantown.

Records show her parents, attorney David Thomas and Harvard Medical School professor Kathryn Hayward bought the five-bed, five-bath house on Pinckney Street in June 1987 when their daughter was just three years old. They didn't move out till she had turned 28.

Psychologists, economists, and cultural analysts are commenting. It's fascinating.

I've noticed that the biggest narcissists always say others are jealous of them when people react negatively to their appalling behavior. I think they have really convinced themselves of that, too. Must be too painful and threatening to them to acknowledge the truth, and they comfort themselves by saying everyone is jealous?

It's so weird!

As if everyone wishes they could be more like the narcissist: pathologically self-absorbed, arrogant, rude, condescending, fully focused on creating and presenting a false image, and desperately dependent on getting a steady stream of attention and praise that will never, ever be enough for them.

She got $50-60k a pop endorsements on social media plus a TV gig for 4 years with Mario Lopez because of her "ethnicity."

He was imitating his Spanish wife’s accent on Letterman.
