naviance GPA

is it cumulative GPA by end of Junior year or cumulative GPA by end of Senior year?

The GPAs you see on the graphs are as of end of senior year, so they will be higher than end of junior year GPAs.

Depends what the school enters. I know my DCs was updated to include 1st sem senior grades so I assume the rest of the data points were based on at least that. I don't know if they update for end of year sr grades - I doubt it since those grades aren't factored into the admissions decision.

My DC had a higher GPA end of junior year. And while he kept his grades up senior spring, many of his friends let their grades slip since they didn't matter (as long as they weren't risking being rescinded).

Sorry, if I am being a bit dense.

Do you mean that when you do a search for any particular school to see at what GPA students were admitted in that school, you are not seeing the actual GPA (first 3 years of HS) that the college based their decision on? Rather you are seeing the final GPA of admitted students?

At my child's school, yes. We were specifically told to take into account that those are end-of-senior-year GPAs, which are higher at our school because the kids tend to take lots of APs. They tell us this so we won't freak out and think our kids won't get in anywhere.

OK. Wonderful. Good to know and very useful information.
Many thanks.

So the historical data on Naviance is "final GPA"? Is there a big difference between "final GPA" and "actual GPA" (by end of junior year, or by midyear)? How to estimate the chance based on current "actual GPA"?

Add .125 to the end of year Junior GPA.

At our school. they just tell us to just mentally "move" the GPA on the chart down a little bit to take into account the difference between junior and senior grades. Those graphs are there just to give a general idea of the stats of kids and their application results at colleges.

GPA is way lower than the avg GPA admitted, but SAT is much higher, what's the chance of being accepted? Depend on the college?

At our school, they've told us the Naviance GPAs are for all four years, but they seem to encourage kids to make choices about where to apply based on their GPA after three years. I guess they don't want the kids to be disappointed, but it tends to steer them towards safer choices, since senior-year GPAs tend to be higher.

It really just depends on the college and how they see the application. And SAT and GPA are only two parts of the application. There's usually an essay, a description of extracurricular activities, teacher or guidance counselor recommendations. We all wish we had a crystal ball to tell us what will happen, but we don't so just have to wait.Is this a rolling admissions school or one where you have to wait until 1 April?
