Need help with Rug size for dining room

Anonymous
Hoping some design people can help with this. I really want a rug in our dining room to pull the room together. I'm running into problems with what size to get. Dining room is roughly 10x10. The Table is 38x65. Ideally, based on table/chair w/rug guidelines, I'd need a ~7x9 inch rug. Unfortunately, all I seem to be able to find are 6'7 x 9'6 or 8x10 rugs. I am inclined to go with the former, to allow for an edge around the room (the 8x10 will not allow much at all). Are there any other options for different rug sizes? Or do you have any other suggestions?

YOu want the rug to be wide enough that the chairs don't go off the edge when pulling them out or moving around. I rug is too small and the edge always gets caught up under the chair legs. I'd suggest the larger rug.

PP - you can get a larger rug rebound to a size between.

You need a minimum of an extra extra 18 inches all around the table. I prefer 24 inches, so that the chairs can slide in and out without coming off the rug. That is a really small dining room, so I see no problem with filling the floor with a rug.

I prefer to stay away from solid colors in the dining room. I want something that isn't too loud, but will hide any mishaps and spills. I like to entertain and don't want to worry about a pristine carpet. I like natural fibers that are easy to clean.

I have found several great rugs on Craig's list over the years. Only look at ones that have pictures. Never trust the buyer's description of the rug (it's not likely to be an antique handmade heirloom quality rug). I look at Macy's to see what an low-end to moderate rug of the size I am looking for costs. If I can get a carpet off Craig's list that is cheaper than that and appears to be good quality (and I like it) -- I take it.

I did buy one for $2600 (it was 12X15) that recently appraised for $42,000. Now, if someone was willing to actually pay that for it -- I'd sell it in a heartbeat. Finding a buyer is the problem...
