I prefer to stay away from solid colors in the dining room.  I want something that isn't too loud, but will hide any mishaps and spills. I like to entertain and don't want to worry about a pristine carpet.  I like natural fibers that are easy to clean.

I have found several great rugs on Craig's list over the years.  Only look at ones that have pictures.  Never trust the buyer's description of the rug (it's not likely to be an antique  handmade heirloom quality rug).  I look at Macy's to see what an low-end to moderate rug of the size I am looking for costs.   If I can get a carpet off Craig's list that is cheaper than that and appears to be good quality (and I like it) -- I take it.

I did buy one for $2600 (it was 12X15) that recently appraised for $42,000.  Now, if someone was willing to actually pay that for it -- I'd sell it in a heartbeat.  Finding a buyer is the problem...[/quote]
