Looks good on paper. Extremely strong for DC's interded major, music. Anyone know anything about if?

I had investigated it, still get emails. My Wisconsin friends tell me it is in a very very small town.

I know a very, very talented musician who turned down an offer from a top conservatory to go there, as a place where you could get both a great music education and liberal arts education.

Appleton is a city of 70,000 in an area of about half a million - it is considered a "small town," but hardly a "very very small town."

Appleton itself is usually included in lists of America's best small town. The biggest downside is the winter - the city is 30 minutes from the "frozen tundra."

and there's not even good downhill skiing nearby

This is true. Plenty of cross country skiing if you like that. The NE US has some decent hills, but Colorado is the school for skiers.

I would wonder about transit to and from a place this size

Appleton has an airport, so does Green Bay just up the road. Both have flights from DC airports, though I doubt nonstop.

Much easier to get to than some schools in the Northeast

Oh wow, my typing skills at 1AM are apparently very lacking. Should be *intended major, and about it*. My apologies! Anyway, small town is OK with her, but not Kenyon small.

It's not in a very, very small town. Appleton has 72,000 people in a metro area of about 250K. Not DC, but not Podunk, USA, either.

Milwaukee is about 90 minutes away with direct flights from DC, so you could either rent a car and drive it, or you could get a connection into the smaller Appleton airport. (which, AFAIK, doesn't have direct to/from DC.)

The 250K excludes the 300K in the Green Bay metro area - 30 minutes away - so it really depends how you define it. A smaller version of the Washington Baltimore issue.
