We actually toured there with our DC 3 years ago and although DC ended up elsewhere, it was her top choice second to where she ended up (Oberlin). Very lovely campus, Appleton is a cute, cute, town, and yes, the music conservatory is excellent is the rest of the education from what I hear. They were very generous with aid. It's definitely small though (1400 students I believe) so that's something to consider. Also, the cold weather..

It's not in a very, very small town. Appleton has 72,000 people in a metro area of about 250K. Not DC, but not Podunk, USA, either.

+1 Appleton is a nice area. Not too big, not too small. Has plenty for college kids. The school is well thought of in the Midwest. Especially for students that want something other than one of the large state universities. Lots of musical students. The new President is from Princeton.

The President, Mark Burstein, is from New York. He did his undergrad at Vassar and has an MBA from Wharton. He worked at Columbia and was an Executive VP at Princeton. Appleton is not rural but is a nice small city and Wisconsin does have small ski resorts. The college is well known for liberal arts, science, music, and attracts international students. Many students go on to grad school.
