Healthier ranch dressing alternative?

I could eat nothing but salad all day long and be perfectly happy. But I have a weakness for ranch dressing and I'm trying to clean up my diet. I don't eat too many packaged products so I feel like that finally needs to go. Help me come up with a recipe for a good creamy salad dressing that will be just as good, but free of chemical-y stuff.

This recipe isn't bad, but I need to replace the mayo with something lower fat. I an probably use greek yogurt instead of sour cream, but what to do instead of mayo? http://allrecipes.com/recipe/ranch-dressing-ii/

Ranch is the future
There is no other dressing
Try it as a drink

Sounds like you like dressing more than salad. Evaluate that and then move forward.

Um, not really. I make a variety of other dressings myself, I just need to have some ranch in my life. It's one of my few remaining guilty pleasures.

I want to avoid the low fat or splenda filled ones, because those up the chemical count, which is what I'm trying to avoid.

I use to be a big ranch dressing person, then realized I was ruining my salads. First I started putting dressing on side, dipping fork in dressing, then into salad. Later,I would add oil & vinegar to salad, but still have the ranch on side still dipping with fork. Eventually, I was able to completely give up the ranch and just go with oil & vinegar, now I transitioned to only vinegar. It took some time, but so worth it!!

Oil is good for you, don't give it up.

Have you tried Bolthouse Farms? It's healthier and could be a good transition while you look for a good homemade dressing. I think I saw a good recipe. Let me look. . . .

Penzeys mix or Hidden Valley dry packet made with greek yogurt.

How about making a dressing with walnut oil and either some champagne vinegar or lemon or fresh orange juice, and some full fat yogurt. Add salt and pepper and dill or garlic powder. Mix everything in a jar and shake with lid on. I am not a big fan of soy because in large amounts it is not great for your health, but you could also use Nayonaise or veganaise in place of mayo in your recipe. Also, for a creamy dressing, I like to mix sour cream and salsa or cottage cheese and salsa.

I find the lemon tahini dressing at Cava Mezze to be delicious. Maybe try that or another tahini-based dressing?

It doesn't sound worth it to me. Ranch dressing is one of the pleasures of life for me! Between ranch and vinegar? No contest.

If I put goat cheese or blue cheese on a salad, I find I am satisfied with a balsamic vinaigrette.
