Healthier ranch dressing alternative?

I haven't tried this one, but a friend who has had success with dieting likes several skinnytaste recipes:

How about one with buttermilk in it? That's what ranch is supposed to be, and it's lower fat. For example, the third google result to your recipe's fourth google result:

Mix everything in a jar and shake with lid on. I am not a big fan of soy because in large amounts it is not great for your health, but you could also use Nayonaise or veganaise in place of mayo in your recipe. Also, for a creamy dressing, I like to mix sour cream and salsa or cottage cheese and salsa.

How exactly is full fat yogurt going to be healthier than ranch? Might as well eat the ranch.

This looks very good, and you could use PPs suggestion of greek yogurt to replace some or all of the mayo if you like it. You can also find dehydrated buttermilk powder online, which adds a nice tang without making the dressing too thin.

Fat is not poison
It is sugar and food dye
Drink the buttermilk!

I like the idea of the skinny taste one, but also uses things like light mayo that I'm trying to avoid. The chow one look slightly promising. Sigh. I might have to stick with moderation and my other recipes.

Flip Driscoll is right.
F being healthy and fit.
Bring on the poison.

How much ranch are you using that it matters? I can't see a couple of tablespoons of dressing wrecking your diet if everything else is in order.

Um, not really. I make a variety of other dressings myself, I just need to have some ranch in my life. It's one of my few remaining guilty pleasures.

I want to avoid the low fat or splenda filled ones, because those up the chemical count, which is what I'm trying to avoid.

Well if your putting so much ranch on your salad that it is significantly impacting your calorie/fat count then I would say your simply putting to much ranch on.

Try putting a few ounces of cottage cheese on top then a couple tablespoons of dressing. Rather than using a cup of dressing.

Later,I would add oil & vinegar to salad, but still have the ranch on side still dipping with fork. Eventually, I was able to completely give up the ranch and just go with oil & vinegar, now I transitioned to only vinegar. It took some time, but so worth it!!

"Worth it"??? You do realize this sounds like you have an eating disorder.

When I want creamy dressing I blend Greek yogurt, olive oil, cilantro, lime juice, and salt. You could sub those Mexican flavors for something closer to ranch.

Mexican is good
I do like lime juice and salt
But ranch is the best!

The difference is actually pretty obvious.

Penzeys mix or Hidden Valley dry packet made with greek yogurt.

This sounds like the way to go. Though I'll be using goat yogurt. (Dairy-intolerant kid. We've gotten to really like goat yogurt.))
