I haven't had funfetti in a long time - probably years. But I got a sudden craving to make funfetti cupcakes with frosting--DID IT CHANGE?
Didn't confetti used to have delicious rainbow chips? Now it's sprinkles? Where can I buy the rainbow chip kind?! |
| I love funfetti cake...can't answer your question though, I forgot about that. |
|
do you mean this one?

Actually, come to think of it I made one a couple months ago for my niece and it had the chips in dinosaur shapes. Maybe the store you went to just didn't carry it. |

It was always sprinkes as far as I know. Sorry! You want rainbowchip cakemix and frosting. if you want an overpriced 6 pack you can get it on Amazon - http://smile.amazon.com/Betty-Crocker-Supermoist-Rainbow-15-25-Ounce/dp/B005EKI1OI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1414516264&sr=8-1&keywords=rainbow+chip+cake+mix

| It has always been sprinkles. Occasionally, there are speciality ones, ike the dinosaur one, that are chips, but sprinkles is the default. |

OP here. Didn't the funfetti cake and frosting used to have rainbow chips though? They were shaped like mini chocolate chips, but they were rainbow colored, and delicious colorful sugary conical shaped chips. I hate sprinkles. I've never liked sprinkles, so something definitely changed

I already posted with the amazon link but I think it is so funny that we know so much about this cake mix. My DS's birthday is tomorrow. We were in NYC a few weeks ago so he and I made boxed cake so we could celebrate with his grandparents. It wasn't pretty but it was awesome (moist and chemically delicious). For his party I ordered a way too exepnsive cake from a bakery, I have a feeling it will pale in comparrision to my boxed cake.

13:13 PP here
Pillsbury Funfetti has always been sprinkles (been making it for 20 yrs) but I do recall those cone-shaped candy pieces. Dont think it was Funfetti though, I will do some research (talk to my mom and sister) and get back to you. |
You are thinking of Rainbow Chip, not funfetti (or if it was funfetti, I bet it's been twenty years since they called it that). At any rate, I think it's largely discontinued. My local Safeway used to carry it, but it is gone, gone, gone. I share your pain. On the upside, think of how many fewer trans fats you'll eat! |
Went the way of Blue M&Ms |
OP I'm with you I will always ALWAYS think of funfetti cake as the kind with the chips in the frosting. Haven't seen it in what feels like forever. Damn that was good frosting. |
OP again. I think you're right. I found the rainbow chip cake mix at a different grocery store, but no luck on the frosting. Meanwhile, there were like 7 different varieties of "funfetti" with sprinkles. The one with the rainbow chips in it reigns supreme. And apparently, not on the shelves anymore...

| YES!!! The batter was always sprinkles, but the frosting used to be the delicious chips, which is what made it!! Its so sad. |
