Shake Up at SSMA?

What are the chances that the Board will fire Dr. Rodriguez? If they don't, what keeps this from happening over and over again?

We joined this year and I am concern abput the principal’s resignation. I learned about it through this site, just yesterday we received an official notification. Our DC thrives in Montessori and would hate aro move to another school, yet it is likely that we do...

Did any lead guide leave over the holidays also? I just noticed a guide job posting on Montessori jobs for this school year (it was posted 13 days ago)

Which class? We have such mixed feelings about the school. In spite of admin issues there is still such a loveliness and warmth to the place and both our kids have wonderful teachers.

We tried to go to the open house on Saturday that is posted on their website. No one showed. Nor did they respond to emails at the posted email address for RSVPs. Multiple families waiting outside in the freezing cold also RSVP'd. Not a great sign...

That's the kind of stuff that should make the Board livid.

I think you guys should also complain to the PCSB. The SSMA Board is clearly not going to act.

They did - last year. The PCSB does not intervene in these issues; their only oversight role, under the law, is to review charter applications to open and continue schools, assess if academic goals are being met and review financial management. Only the latter two will get a school closed or reprimanded. They can and do also intervene behind the scenes if they receive reports of problems with how they handle student discipline (e.g. suspensions/expulsions) and meet the needs of special needs students.

The SSMA Board is really the only entity with leverage. You could try to get a reporter with the Washington Post or City Paper interested in it as a story (publicity could work)

Addendum to 12:08

The PCSB WILL intervene, or at least publicly scold schools at the time of charter review and renewal/renewal with conditions. Not sure when SSMA is next up for review.

The only other thing for parents to do is leave. Student retention is now tracked in the STAR reports put out by OSSE. Last year it was 83%; just about at the DC average.

Ten-year review is in school year 2020-2021. So not for a while.
