What are the list of MCPS positions set to be laid off (assuming the budget cuts go through)?

They lost 28 security roles though

He’s incompetent to cut security. We need more, not less.
+1. That doesn’t bode well.

Not that it makes it better but it reads as if the security positions cut were new positions. Does not sound like schools would be losing any….unless I am reading it incorrectly.

Are all PPWs gone?

Yes and yes. Social workers are also gone.

If these positions aren’t filled, why didn’t he start with those? Lots of people panicked over the past couple of weeks and thankfully, some relieved (as of today).

The PPW at my middle school does nothing. I get that cut.

The PPW at my elementary school does a lot. Losing that position is a blow for us.

Agreed - people in this position serve the most vulnerable children in the school district. I'll bet some have saved lives- no joke.

Not all PPW's, just 27 of them. But that will be felt. The PPW at my school does a lot. They do home visits and build invaluable relationships with families that need the most support.

Social workers are important but they should be part of a different agency rather than MCPS. Health and human services, etc. MCPS cannot be in charge of such disparate functions as clearly central office does a terrible job of effectively managing all these different services and responsibilities. MCPS should focus on education. Other stuff should be moved elsewhere. I feel bad for families who are struggling and need a ppw to support them but is that even effective? The absentee rate is still horrendous. These families need to access support through social service agencies not MCPS

They serve a different purpose and the county doesn’t offer what they do. They link families to county support but county does not support everyone or have enough programs either.

I would love to see an OLO report on all the money that Identity (run by Black and Brown Coalition leader Diego Uriburu) makes operating Wellness Centers at multiple high schools in the county. Uriburu does Taylor's bidding in order to succor favor to keep the money coming in. What evidence is there that these programs are having favorable outcomes? Could the money be better spent on PPWs and licensed social workers, instead of the untrained peer counseling provided by 23 year olds employed by Identity.

Can someone paste all the details in, please?

How many PPW will be left? Will they be assigned to the cross functional teams?

What are the dual enrollment cuts? My daughter took 2 free classes at MC. Are they going to take away the free classes?

As I understand it, you have to be eligible to retire already. That would mean you have 30 years. 10k is not enough to move the needle.

If a teachers starts at 24, that means with 30 years they'd be 54, that's not really retirement age or the pension being enough to live off of, especially if they have HS/College age kids.

Exactly, I was hired by mcps at the ripe old age of 23. So I am eligible (have my 30) but I also have one kid about to begin college and 2 more. My husband was a fed until last year. He hasn’t been able to find a job with a salary even close to what he was making before. 10k is not even close to enough for me to consider the offer.

I heard MCPS in the 90s offered a buyout of $50-60K. The $10k being offered now is insulting, especially since you need to choose between getting paid for sick leave or the incentive. The only people taking it already had plans to retire.
