Tells you a lot about the school and the people in it.

Not all of us run to post on social media when our kid gets into an Ivy. Christ

Umm others years when Sidwell had good college admits those "modest" kids were happy to crow about it on social media asap. Sooo. maybe this year Sidwell has nothing to report? Live by the sword die by the sword, people. Interesting that the parents who love to denigrate GDS on this forum simply cannot just say- "Wow good job." Seven (that we know of) Harvard admits in one class. Why is it so hard to just say the kids did great?

Relax, GDS Mom. Sidwell has 10 Ivy admits posted on Instagram so far, compared to GDS’ 14. You and I both know that no matter what the numbers end up being this year, Sidwell was/is/will always be superior to GDS. But please enjoy those extra 4 admits for now…
Everyone deserves their time in the sun (especially after the results GDS’ c/o ‘23 endured).

Potomac has a little more than half the class up and strictly for Ivies they have 10 Ivies (did not count two admissions to Barnard as that is part of Columbia) posted out of 59. Had one at Oxford too. Typical class is about 108 or so. Broken down as follows: Dartmouth 4 Harvard 2 Yale 1 Brown 2 Princeton 1. Duke had 3. Lot of good SLACs e.g. Pomona, Wellesley, Barnard (as mentioned), Amherst, Middlebury, and Williams.

Again note, this is about half the class. My kids long gone to Ivies from there but the list does seem stronger than when my kids were there.

We only counting straight Ivies? or due other tops count e.g. Hopkins, Duke, Northwestern (there was at least one of these), MIT, Cal Tech, Chicago, Stanford, etc. You know which ones I mean--top of US News till about 15 or so.
You mean Ivy plus schools? Yeah!

The bigger question is where the rest of the 116 or so total class will wind up in RD. Clearly Ivy Day for RD at Sidwell and Potomac nothing like GDS’s Harvard success, and a surprising dearth of in state options (UVA, UMD, VaTech, W and M). Unless folks making up their minds, check back in a month or so once none of the WL moves and folks need to make decisions!

It is so sad to read all the pettiness and nastiness on the part of some posters.

The strength of a school is not how many Ivy admits it has because those kids at any one of these places are overwhelmingly hooked. The strength is where they send their bottom 50% kids. Or bottom 20% kids.

This is all yet to be determined.

Harvard's numbers are a bit interesting if you dig a bit.

They went from an overall total of 56,937 to 54,008, a change of -2929 applications.

In the early round, though, they went from 9553 to 7921, a change of -1632 applications.

So they lost 1,600 applications early (before most of the controversy took place) and 1,300 in the regular round after the controversy became more well-known.

It’s not just the antisemitism charges that is causing lower interest in Harvard. The information that came out from the affirmative action lawsuit was very unappealing to many families. Application numbers declined last year, too.

This is a great point. Thank you for being the voice of reason

GDS clearly doesn’t care about any of that. So much for their social justice emphasis

Jewish applications down for sure and also many kids do not want to go to school in such a contentious atmosphere. Several jewish kids attacked on campus.

How do you know this? Or is it just conjecture and personal anecdotes? I have not seen any data about this.

Are you serious? I am 100 percent sure I was told by a parent of a current Harvard student that an RA at Harvard beat up a Jewish student this year.

As a parent of one of those kids, at another similar school,
I agree 100%. Private school is a safety net!

Overnight, the posted Ivy count went up to 13 for Sidwell (3 Harvard bound). GDS is still holding on to its lead by its fingernails and a prayer (14). The final numbers will be close this year because I know there’s a Sidwell student waiting to post her Penn admit.

Do your homework and investigate it yourself. Because he was Jewish. Google it or ask school directly.

Maybe kids are considering their options, or just not obnoxious enough to post results while classmates are processing their news?

No these kids are plenty obnoxious enough…never been a problem. Every second of their lives is advertised and they don’t care if a classmate feels bad about it!

Because of the insane costs, there's less competition for these schools nowadays so getting into an Ivy just doesn't mean what it used to.

That’s how you console yourself?

The Harvard kids all have extraordinarily smart, connected, dynamic parents. Some are legacies, some are not. All are super successful, national leaders in their respective fields. I know two of them from work.
I assume their kids are similar to their parents: big picture, innovative thinkers who are also kind and very good with people. They (their parents) are the kind of people who are among the most impressive I have ever met. It makes a lot of sense that their kids would be exceptional.

I know a parent of one of the Harvard kids and that's the last thing I'd say about her. Had a downright negative experience, confirmed by someone else on our committee.
