The best odds I could find to bet on Sweden to advance from yesterday's game was +135.

The odds for Team USA’s round of 16 game are closer than for any of the Americans’ group-stage matches. And they're getting closer. WynnBet opened the three-way moneyline at U.S. +108/Sweden +260/Draw +240. The initial move was to U.S. +115/Sweden +267/Draw +220, so the Swedes' price was actually slightly longer.

Compared to how many quality scoring chances for Sweden?

Oooh, can I play? The answer is zero.

3-4 quality chances does not equal “domination” - you are taking the comment out of context. Sweden had 1 good chance, 85th min that Naeher blocked. Nobody is arguing that Sweden was better…both teams play s- soccer and hopefully both will be home soon while quality teams compete for the Cup.

The Swedish keeper had an amazing game. The double pivot with Sonnet and Sullivan worked, and Lavalle's absence (which forced the coach to play this lineup) actually worked out well for the team. Sonnet was a revelation, Sullivan for me was the best player on the field, and Horan played free and loose, the best she has played in the entire tournament. Rodman was terrific as long as she was on the field, Sophia Smith not quite so, and Morgan was not good enough for someone who leads the line in the #1 ranked team in the world. Ertz and Girma were great as always - Girma is probably the best CB of the tournament so far - and Fox had her best game of the WC. Dunne was good in parts but wasted the ball sometimes. The goalie was incredible in the PKs and strong in the air all through the game. Hats off to Ertz for giving everything she had after her comeback, what a player!
The coach and team management should be fired en masse for playing an old over-the-hill player like Rapinoe, who was clearly not fit and sharp enough to be on the field even for a minute. I have no problem with her activism, politics - I agree with all of it in fact - and am grateful for her long service to the team during her prime years, when she was a creative, smart and hardworking players. At her prime, one of the US soccer greats. But having her on this team and putting her on the field at a crucial stage of a knockout game is an absolute joke. Makes one think whether the coach is under some kind of real or imagined pressure to play her. It also undercuts women's soccer claim to being a serious and professional sport where winning counts for more than hype. Can we imagine France (men's champions in 2018) going to the 2022 WC with a half-fit Pogba, even though he was one of the stars of 2018 and is still playing? Or Kante? And then either of them inserting them into a round of 16 game with the score at 0-0? And where the hell was Ashley Sanchez? Or DeMelo? Even though Demelo had a poor half against Netherlands, she would have been better than the awful Rapinoe who couldn't even deliver a proper free kick or corner into the box. Sanchez and Demelo are young, creative, energetic players who could have made a difference at that stage.
Bottom line: I think this team and the pipeline has plenty of talent to continue to be one of the top 10 teams in the world (the glory days of winning a "new" sport are totally irrelevant). US soccer needs to make the right decisions, forget the hype (and arrogance) and select and play the right players (and coach). It might also not hurt to encourage young players to at least go out on loan to European clubs which is where most of the growth in quality is happening.

Yes! All this. Where was Ashley Sanchez?! She should have played!!!

You're referring to the three-way odds, which includes draw (which won) as an option.

I was talking about the two-way odds to advance, where the best available price for Sweden was around +135.

The specter of public sh*tshow from media enablers pushed coaches to play them in roles they never should have, and neither player had the grace to take a step back and do what was best for the team. At least the Portugal coach eventually snapped out of it.

Two of the most selfish players ever.

Rapinoe has always been a me-me-me player

FFS!! Come on, JFC. Rapinoe doesn't even belong in the same sentence as Ronaldo. And he is actually an incredibly generous guy. But, you are SERIOUSLY undermining what Ronaldo has done in the sport and his dedication to training.

USWNT vs. Sweden spread: USA -0.5 (+135)
USWNT vs. Sweden to advance: USA -175, Sweden +125

He's still a very, very selfish player. Are you seriously debating this?

It's not really a controversial thing to say. It was tolerated for so long because of his greatness.

I'm not disputing that the US was favored, but that they were as heavy as 2-to-1 favorites. Sweden was nowhere near +200 to advance. Otherwise I would've bet way more on them!

In my math book, 4 vs 0 = domination. Seems like plenty of people on here agree. And if you knew soccer, you would recognize that 4 quality chances at this level is very respectable.

I'm shocked US was favored so highly after their previous 2 games in this tournament. SHOCKED. They really are not all that. They absolutely did not dominate Sweden. The score was 0-0. If you call that getting some chances to score, you could say that South Africa dominated Netherlands cause let me tell you, in that game, S Africa had about the same number of chances. BUT they did not score. The US did NOT score. A 0-0 game means that nobody dominated. That the odds were so high for the US to win is based solely on reputation not on reality. If Sweden did not beat them, Japan would. If not, Netherlands probably would if they played again. I agree with PP saying both were S- teams. A solid team is going to have players that can put the ball in the net. It doesn't matter how many chances you have. You have to score! Even more if you had 4 chances!!!! The more you have that you don't, the s- you are!
