Thoughtful replies only, please. If you don't like the questions you don't have to respond at all. However all views are welcome as long as they are thoughtful and not trolls or insults.

1. It is not insulting to me, but it reveal your level of knowledge.
2. Not insulting, as Jesus himself told us to seek and we will find him. Seeking the God may take a person various passes, including learning and comparing different religions.
3. No, I never thought about them as mythical. More like you will not find the evidence that they are real God. But the definition of mythical will appropriate if you chose to use it

So you don't use the word mythical, then, even in an academic style re: Zeus and Odin? I give you credit for consistency.

DP. To me it's all about respecting the person you're talking to. So if there are any followers of Zeus and Odin on this board, I won't use the term "mythical." But it seems unlikely any would be here.

You know there are many non-believers on this board, right? So you don't respect them, or their beliefs?

PP here. What the what? I didn't say anything about non-believers, maybe because that's not the thread topic. Of course I respect non-belief.

But non-believers think your god is mythical, and you do not allow them to express their thoughts here without personal criticism. That is the main point.

You don't understand saying "Jesus Is Lord" and "Jesus Is A Myth" are expressly opposite positions on the same topic.

You demand respect for one but shout down the other by saying it is "disrespectful" to say so here. (Please note this is different than shouting it in a church vestibule. We are talking about a discussion forum designed for that purpose.)

I would like you to rethink your position and extend respect for all positions, including ones you disagree with.

Nope. This is a distorted analogy, an analogy fail.

NOBODY IS MAKING YOU ENTER THREADS WHERE PEOPLE ARE SAYING “JESUS IS LORD” OR THAT THEY’RE TRYING TO RETURN TO GOD. It’s YOUR CHOICE to barge in and disrespectfully tell everybody you think religion is myth/evil/everything else in your playlist.

ALSO, NOBODY IS SHUTTING DOWN YOUR OPINION. The “Thank God I’m an Atheist” thread is humming along. Nobody has shut it down. In fact, nobody has said barged in to say you’re going to hell or you must have an empty life, either, perhaps proving the point that DCUM’s believers are more respectful than it’s atheists.

It’s very simple. If you don’t want to hear about Jesus being Lord, DON’T ENTER THOSE THREADS. Douchebaggery is when you show up on those threads to trash the particular belief.

Why do you have such a hard time understanding simple respect? Sorry for the caps, but you’re really struggling with this.

Thank you for this post, because it just proves my point perfectly. Calling people names, typing in caps, demanding that your threads have no dissent, falsely insinuating no believers posted in the "Thank God I’m an Atheist” thread. (They did. Without being called names for their beliefs).

You are the disrespectful one. You have a double standard. You are a hypocrite. You demand special consideration for your beliefs but do not extend them to others. You don't believe that other faiths deserve that respect "unless they are here" but don't think non-believers - who are here - deserve any of that same respect.

This thread has illustrated that. Undeniably.

And for the record, I think your religion is false and is a myth like any other. That position is not inherently disrespectful.

PP: I want to be able to barge onto threads about religion without having to see any posts about Jesus being Lord, and I also want to be able to trash religion on religious threads.

Also PP: If anybody barges onto a thread about atheism to say we're going to hell, that's totally disrespectful.

Also PP: Asking for respect on a religion thread is asking for "special treatment" but asking for respect on an atheism thread is my right.

Three rapid posts in a row shows you are a little worked up. Not my intention. Sorry about that. But all of them reiterate the point that you want special treatment for your position, with its own threads that no one is allowed to disagree with therein. I don't think any poster gets to decide what can't go in a thread except the moderator, so unless you are him, that will not be a successful argument.

My position is post whatever you want, in whatever thread, as long as it is relevant to the topic. And yes, that includes your faith, and why you have it! I think those are important topics. But don't call people names just because they disagree with you. That's hypocrisy. Hopefully we can all agree hypocrisy is bad.

Sorry if I upset you, and I hope you have a good evening.

So I can join the "Thank God I'm an Atheist" thread to tell you that you're going to hell, and btw you're a sad, sad person with no life outside insulting religion?

Didn't think so.

Obviously, YOU want special treatment. You want to be able to pop into threads on religion in order to insult religion. But when you're doing this, and in the process of insulting religion, you don't want to have to hear about Jesus/Mohammed/Buddha.

And you REALLY don't want anybody to insult atheism.

Hypocrisy much? You're the king/queen of hypocrisy.

Be respectful. That's all anybody is asking. But thanks for the patronizing post--it's pretty revelatory about you, due to being mostly lies and distortions. BTW, I'm actually laughing at the contortions you're putting out there to try to justify your hypocrisy.

You haven't addressed the main point and clearly you don't want to understand. Instead you come back with a complete load of bs.

You think you're entitled to barge onto any religion thread to trash the beliefs of the people there. Then, ironically, you whine that (a) you had to read that Jesus is lord, the horror, and (b) your hate wasn't welcomed there.

Yes, I've opened the "Thank God I'm an Atheist Thread." It's a cesspool of misinformation and hate, but I haven't commented because I'm not the audience and, frankly nobody on that thread would be convinced by religious arguments (a lesson you could learn, because nobody is convinced by your behavior).

You're lying about the comments from believers on the "Thank God I'm an Atheist" thread. They were correcting factual errors, not insulting you.

As I already pointed out (do I need to put it in caps?), nobody of faith entered the "Thank God I'm an Atheist" thread to tell you you're going to hell or that you're leading a sad, empty life.

But that's exactly what you think you should be able to do on religious threads.

WE'RE DEMANDING THE SAME RESPECT WE EXTEND TO ATHEISTS. NOBODY IS DEMANDING "SPECIAL CONSIDERATION," THAT'S A BALD-FACED LIE. And I already apologized for the caps on the other post, but they're necessary because you're so determined to miss the point that I was hoping caps would help.

No, your position is crystal clear:

- Saying "Jesus Is Lord" is fine even though there are non-believers here.
- Saying "Jesus Is Not Lord" is offensive because there are Christians here.

That is a presumption that there are non-believers in the Religion forum. It is like fertile woman posting non-stop in infertility threads, or person without kids in the toddlers group.

What that is in my opinion are people who enjoy the ritual and the cultural legacy, and like to believe there is something greater, and an after life, but our smart enough to not believe in myths as fact. And before anybody goes ballistic, I’m talking about all myths not just the one the person reading this happens to believe in.

Zeus is a myth!

Your opinion is wrong, I know "spiritual" people too. They're just afraid to tell you they believe because they know you'll go ham on them in the rudest possible way.

Great. You’re free to think what you think and I am free to think what I think, and we’re both free to state those opinions here and then open forum.

At least that’s the way it should be. But that’s not the way you want it I bet.

You're not free to be deliberately offensive, what a nasty notion.

I’m not free to think the opposite of what you think? The opposite of what you think is inherently offensive?

That’s such hypocrisy I don’t even know how to respond to it

Are you trolling now? Multiple people have told you that you're free to think whatever the heck you want.

Your BEHAVIOR is the issue here. And the fact that you're trolling.

I am free to think what I want? Great. Thanks. I think all gods are myths.

You made your point.

+1. Or, as the moderator says, this atheist is like somebody who shows up on a thread about dogs and insists on talking about cats.

Plus the same atheist, who has chosen to enter a dog thread, is outraged to find people talking about dogs there.

Plus the same atheist demands the dog people stay out of their cat threads.

I always admired the American Indians idea of the "great spirit in the sky." They get it about right I think. And hopefully when we die we will go on to the "happy hunting grounds" (which I presume is heaven). Anyone want to say this is myth? For the record I don't think so, if the gods/Gods of the OT and NT are real then so is the great spirit in the sky.

The correct way to put this is that cat-loving atheist enters the dog thread by her own choice, pretends to feel insulted that people are talking about dogs there, and pretends that’s why she’s trashing dogs.

Instead of, you know, choosing to enter the dog thread with the express purpose of insulting dogs.

No one wants to insult you, man. No one knows you or cares enough to want to insult you. It is not about you. People just want to express their position on religion in the religion forum. And sometimes it is different than what you believe and you don't like that.

Notice that no atheist says you are not welcome to state your claims and beliefs. Not one. Only one side is trying to silence the other.

That's all anybody needs to know about this topic.

Calling someone’s cherished beliefs a “myth” is by definition insulting. Not to mention, barging in on a religion thread to do that is, shall we say, boorish.

It’s not about “silencing” you, because you’re absolutely free to have your atheism threads, and the absolute BS if your claim is demonstrated by your outrage when somebody slams atheism.

Only one side wants to insult people, and that’s DCUM’s pair of atheists.

The fact that you keep pretending—and we all know you’re pretending—you’re not being insulting is not a good reflection on you.

You are -- LITERALLY -- DEMANDING to come onto threads where people are discussing religion, PRETENDING to be offended that people are saying Jesus is Lord, and then TRASHING other peoples' beliefs with the most REDUCTIVE INSULTS. Calling belief a "myth" isn't thoughtful argument--it's playground childishness.

What's more, you TAKE OVER almost every thread on religion. You post multiple times on every single page of a religion thread, to the point where you derail almost every conversation about religion. As the moderator said (here: https://www.dcurbanmom.com/weblog/2023/07/03/update070323), "But, there are a couple of atheist posters who are particularly boorish. They are as persistant in their proselytization as the most fundamentalist of believers."

(Look, I can use bolding and caps too!)

You are - LITERALLY - demanding atheists not post their position in the religion forum except where you deem appropriate. That is the definition of silencing.

Go ahead and "slam atheism" all you want. I encourage you to try. I am willing to change my mind if shown sufficient evidence.

Are you?

Why would anyone want to do it? We will all face the judgement day and we all know where you will go. You made your choices. Why would anyone wants to change it for you?

1. Is it "insulting" to refer to god as "mythical"? Why?

2. Is it insulting to compare a god to another god or mythical being knowing people who believe in one don't believe in the other? Why?

3. Those of you who believe in one god: do you think the other gods are "mythical"? Why?

Why not to discuss your issue in atheist forum? I am sure you will find more support and more likeminded people there.
