Ehh, I sorta feel ya, but she's recommended a few good ones.
I liked "House of sand and fog".

Tragedy porn at it's finest. ANd horrible writing.

Kristin Hannah in general. The Nightingale was awful.

so many people go on and on about her books and how they're the best books they've ever read.
They're awful. I think they illicit emotions and that is conflated with worth. As if.

Agreed. I don't get the appeal of her at all.

Fourth Wing (stupid/badly written), Demon Copperhead (dumb knockoff).

I hate 4th wing but I'm in two book clubs. We've already read it in one and now another.

Hillbilly Elegy was the most astroturfed and fakest bullshit I've ever read. I couldn't eye roll hard enough when NY Times and CNN nitwits pretended it was the most profound crap they've ever read. Everything in it was so clearly fake. Of course it was all a ruse to lay the political foundation for this neocon tech puppet they were going to make a young president.

Haven't read the whole thread, but I just finished The Women by Kristen Hannah and was hugely disappointed. Normally I really like her books but this one just didn't work.

And East of Eden, which is a masterpiece.

This is very old news but… I never got the hullabaloo over the “discovery” that Frey’s memoir A Million Little Pieces was fake. I knew that after reading the first 20 pages or so. No one who had been through those things would phrase things the way he did. It was poorly written and fake AF that was painfully obvious. To me, the positive attention it got and the high sales were the shockers.

Yeah, I don’t understand the appeal at all. People find it deep as an ocean when it isn’t even an inch of water in a dirty sink.

But that writer is a lot richer than I am, I guess.

Fleischman in Trouble - hated the book, hated that I hated the book and can't believe they made a miniseries out of it
