If you voted for Youngkin, what was the number one reason?

This.

The censorship, the cancel culture, the single narrative that shuts out any dissenting voices. All of that is terrifying to me. Much more terrifying to me than even Trump.

GMAFB. The Ds have a big tent. Were AOC & friends “canceled” over infrastructure differences?

What happens if a R criticizes Trump?

Many of the people I know who voted for Youngkin did so as a vote against Terry. America’s done with everyone associated with the Clintons.

No because it's the ilk of AOC who are the cancellers. The rest are the moderates.

I do think censorship is an issue on both the R and L, and both are bad.

So 4-5 “cancellers”? You should definitely judge every D in the US based on them.

No - by ilk I meant the entirety of the illiberal left.

America's done with a lot of things - not just the Clintons.

A book about a white person gets scrutinized or removed from study way more than any book about a poor person or homosexual which was seen recently with that book the school board had to turn off the mike for. Many books about people who were harmed by the government and white people.

Have you looked in the YA section of an independent bookstore lately? Books featuring characters from various marginalized groups are the only books you can find.

I'm a non-elite Dem and I still love Joe -- but the "woker-than-thou" attitude that seeps out from left wing Twitter and infects the Democratic Party needs to stop. UMC Dems are just as guilty of living in an echo chamber as the right wing, they just don't realize it.

Marginalized groups? That's because the majority of YAs are non-white. The bookstores are now catering for these kids and young adults.

I agree with the PP and have also noticed the bolded. I don’t care about what anyone else does in the bedroom, but it does seem that every other book in YA is targeted towards the LGBQT population.

My neighbor (a Catholic Latina immigrant) has a DD who wanted to do Book Wars. She was actually somewhat hesitant because of the content of many of the books.

I understand that there is a segment of the population who is LGBQT, but is that the majority of the population?

It just seems off to me, as if there is an ‘agenda’ at play.

I’ve noticed the bolded too, even in younger kids’ books.

Previously I would have purchased anything that has an award sticker on it without really looking. Now I need to look at the plot and even the date. Things published 10+ years ago that won an award were actually good books, they didn’t just check some diversity box.

Np I’ve noticed it too in the books my kindergartener brings home. She gets one a week. I read A LOT to my kids and they’re seriously boring books. She said they can only pick from certain shelves.

Buy your books from Blackwell's in England. They have free shipping to the States but it does take 15 to 20 days to receive them. British children's books are so much better than any in the US, including those that focus on race issues. The only children's books I buy from American authors are the classics that I give for baby presents.

The jealousy and hate for Asian kids and their parents from people like Scott Brabrand and his cronies. The crazy notion that things have to be dumbed down in the name of equity.

Like I said, the Ds have a big tent and a lot of voices. AOC & friends didn’t get “canceled” over infrastructure & social bills differences. Biden & Pelosi didn’t tweet crazy sh1t about them. They didn’t get death threats from other Ds. You might want to step back and look around if you’re worried about “cancel culture”.

As a Democrat, I say you have no clue how illiberal the illiberal left really is. The top tier may not tweet nasty crap at each other like Trump does, but there is a definite battle going on between progressives and moderates, with moderates afraid to speak out. See what James Carville said about Wokism. He's exactly right. Even the New York Timrs and the Econimist said it. I know, those are just right wing mouthpieces that must be dismissed.

Typically vote Dem. I think CRT is a red herring. But:

Closed schools

Confusion and lack of leadership in Richmond on testing and quarantines. Why is FCPS 14 days and surrounding counties 7 plus test? That’s a week of school.

TJ admissions standards

Teachers unionizing after getting first dibs on the vaxx, then trying not to go back

The use of a monitors in DD’s classroom while the vaxxed teacher taught from home last year

O Days! And especially cancelling APs on O Days.

VMPI

AAP

Focusing on renaming closed schools and electric school buses and re-doing TJ at a time when they could get kids back

Still focusing on BS and no answers on indoor lunch

Discourse, sure. That’s part of a big tent.

Moderates seem to be winning “the battle” so it doesn’t seem like they have much to worry about.
