| I would like to apply to have my son attend a MCPS school out of our boundary. Has anyone successfully applied for a COSA and had it approved. What reason did you give? Thanks! |
| Well, what is your reason? |
| You should buy a house where you want to go to school or use the legit programs to transfer. Not try to game the system by claiming hardship when none exists. |
So helpful. And to be clear, it's MCPS's complete unwillingness to acknowledge that some schools are inferior to others that forces parents into a procedure under which they have to make up an excuse. People game the system because the system is a mess. |
| Helpful comments are appreciated here. |
| 16:02, you are a big cheater. how do you sleep at night. Disgusted by you. |

I would definitely put down how important integrity is to your child. And the other school has dirty children.
Shoe. In. |
| OP here- before everyone gets all holier than thou, I'm simply asking under what conditions they allow a COSA. Any request I make will need to be submitted with verifiable proof. I'm looking for examples of what is considered reasonable, and whether my request would meet any of the criteria. |
| Day care is a popular reason |

Um.. are you that poster from the Rachel Carson thread stating that you are zoned for RP but live closer to Cold Spring and want to do a COSA to Cold Spring? If you are, you did state in that other post that you had to come up with an acceptable reason. So, I'm assuming you are looking to make one up and try to find some evidence to back this up.
Distance is definitely not a good reason. I hope your Larla does get into CS. One less at RP. Not sure why you didn't just buy into the CS zone. It's not like the homes there are that much more expensive than Horizon Hill, which is where I assume you live because that borders the CS zone. |
| OP here- not from the other thread. |
| I put that I don't want my kid to be near poor kids. It was not accepted. So we moved to Somerset. |
Ha! I know someone who actually got her child COSA to Somerset for that reason. I'm pretty sure that's not what they said to MCPS, but that is certainly what they were thinking. |
| I got one while divorcing because my then-DH's relative would have been DD's administrator. |

I know of teachers who got their kids transferred to their own schools or neighboring schools. i.e. a teacher who teaches at whitman who got her kid transferred to an elementary in the whitman cluster.
it makes sense because otherwise she would have had to put her kid in aftercare. |
