My son's father and I are divorced. His father works for a small, liberal arts college in the Midwest and because of this, he receives free tuition at a variety of similar schools in the Midwest and reduced tuition at even more, Pepperdine being one of them. So, it is on the table as a school he's interested in. Looking to study business or economics. It looks absolutely gorgeous from the photos. Any thoughts? |
It is gorgeous. |
Definitely gorgeous. My friend teaches business at Pepperdine. Good program. |
Stellar location. Lots of rich kids who can't get into more respectable schools. Lots of drugs and partying. I'd be wary. |
Gorgeous location, lovely campus.
Lots of drugs and drinking while the administration might like you to believe otherwise. If you want a 3rd or 4th tier school for kids who can't get in anywhere else and would love a view of PCH on your dime, this is the school for your Larla or Larlo! |
What nonsense. Pepperdine is a church of Christ school. If anything, the criticism is too little social life. Top 50 school. |
UCLA grad here; lived in that general area and know it well.
1) Yes. Gorgeous. Not only the campus, but the surrounding mountains and sea. 2) Great school. I would be happy if my kids decided to go there. Thrilled, in fact. 3) No, the culture is less drinking/drugs--the campus is dry. Tends to attract students who are of that mindset. 4) I know lots of employed Pepperdine grads so don't know what PP is talking about. |
It isn't mid-west. Its as west as you can get without being in the ocean.

Thanks for the geography lesson. Now good read the original post again. |
DD has a friend who is a freshmen and loves her experience so far. DD has if on her radar but its cost prohibitive to us. |
A vey good school for a serious student who cares more about academics than partying. |
+1. I also knew a couple people who got MBAs there and were happy with the program. |
+1 But you also have to either be "out loud" religious or have a thick skin about all your classmates and roommates praying out loud as a group (for you) all the time. I know one friend who transferred out because she couldn't take it, and another (there now) who is just dealing with it in the spirit intended although she finds it pretty embarrassing and annoying. |
After the first 4 words, this is an utterly ridiculous post. |
This is true. The school makes no bones about the importance of religion and faith. It would be a big mistake to go to Pepperdine thinking they would have a Georgetown/BC attitude toward religion. |
