Sending kid to college in Canada with a car

I know this is a long shot, but has anyone sent their child to college in Canada with a car?
We live in VA and my daughter is going to college in Ontario. We want her to have a car, but our insurer cannot insure the car outside of this area. Our other option is to import the car into Canada, which is a huge pain. Has anyone found a way to insure a car for use by a student in Canada without having to import the vehicle? |

Because they might be able to offer advice about public transportion, rental car, storing the car on the US side..... |

| If anyone is curious, I have learned that she can drive the car (still registered in Virginia) for 6 months in Ontario, but we still have to deal with the insurance issue. |
