Strange Videos on my DD's PC

My PC crashed and I had to use my DD's PC today. In the deleted favorites, (links that are deleted but left in the recycle bin) I found quite a number links to strange videos on burning and ripping clothes!
She's 16 so she's not actually that "young" anymore and thinking about confronting her. Or maybe I should observe her for a bit. Should I suspect abuse of some sort that I am not aware of?

It doesn't sound like the videos are of p*rn*graphic material or of anything illegal or immoral, so what exactly has she done wrong?

It sounds like something kind of strange to be watching videos about, but I'm not sure why you have automatically jumped to this being a red flag for some kind of abuse. Doesn't really sound like it to me. Then again, I don't mind what my kids choose to learn about/research/look into/explore as long as it is not illegal or against our family's moral values, which this would not be.

I would only have a problem if they started burning anything in the house (safety) or destroying clothes we bought them without talking to us first (possibly disrespectful, and we don't necessarily have the $$ to replace them).

OP Here. Disturbing ones like these. Questions that go through my mind was whether she was raped or something? Or does she really hate her winter jackets or something? (She has a northface now) oR is it a new trend in Europe (seems like most of these are European videos!)

Looks like a fashion thing to me. Even before I saw the videos, I was thinking about in HS how we used to cut, rub w a pumice stone, and repeatedly wash out jeans to get the preworn look so common today.

op here.. if it was just cutting and rub with a pumice stone, I would be ok. Here they were "shredding" it totally and in some other videos, they are burning them, pissing on them, stomping them in mud.

I am wondering if she needs help. but help in what? That's what I can't pinpoint!

I have 2 explanations for you. Either way, I think you are overreacting and need to chill out.

1. your daughter has a very obscure, weird fetish she is just starting to discover and explore (she's certainly the right age)

2. your daughter did what most of us do at some point or another - go on youtube to search "how to make muffins" or whatever and end up down a youtube black hole where 7 hours later, you're watching videos of someone dressed up like a hot dog lip synching to Michael Bublé.

either way, I'd just let it go. Unless you're seeing other red flags from her behaviour, this is just run of the mill internet exploration.

One video leads to another then to something even weirder than you could ever imagine.

True event: I started out on YouTube looking for Easter egg coloring ideas, 45 minutes later I watched a woman give herself a full Brazilian wax...yep, all the way around with no help.

Your daughter isn't in a satanic cult that sacrifices gore-tex; she is surfing YouTube and laughing at how many different types of people there are in the world.

You're a good mom for worrying but there's nothing here but curiosity.

Thank you. Good point about the search trail. Hopefully that's the case. My only concern was they were once favrorites. (hence they are not just internet history but was flagged at one point for keeping)

I know its disrespectful to snoop..... but her favourites are now empty and she has also deleted all history (or maybe started in incognito) Her desktop is also very neat and just mainly have school work all in folders. No sign of any photos, music. She's generally reserved and keeps much to herself too and currently only interested in band it seems.

She used to lose a few of her coats in middle school and I remember we did have to replace them. She has also come back with coats I never bought but she said she was given them by her friends or did clothes exchange with her good friends. The clothes look decent and guess we never read much into it then..... until today.

So maybe its a fetish. but what is it? to wear and destroy your clothes after? Piss on them and burn them?

It might have been favorites b/c it was the default setting. I wouldn't worry about it, OP. I doubt your DD has a fetish. It's probably the search rabbit hole, PP mentioned.

I'd let it go.

I agree - she probably ended up on one of those vids by accident and then went "WTF is that!?" and watched a bunch of them before shaking her head and deleting everything going "WTF did I just watch 5 of those?!"
