Odds of Getting Pregnant at 45??!!

After a LONG dry spell, I reconnected w/an ex over the past few days and needless to say, made up for lost time and then some.

Anyway, in the heat of passion, I didn't use any type of birth control and neither did he.

My last menstrual period was Sept. 13th, I had sexual relations 21st-23rd and my cycles can vary from every 25 to every 27 days.

Online research says at my age my chances are 1%...Even less than.

Yet, my co-workers are telling me until I hit menopause I am fair game and can get pregnant any time I have unprotected sex.

Who's right here?

Both you and your coworkers are right. Chances are not high but it is definitely possible.

It happened to Rachel Dratch at 44:

Don't have unprotected sex. Morning after pill if you do and don't want to be pregnant. Menopause is also dicey b/c someone think they're periods are over, but they are just unpredictable, and come with a late-in-life unexpected pregnancy.

You're probably not, but if you're late, I'd do an EPT.

+1 to all of the above. Very unlikely but not impossible. I know someone who had it happen at 44-years-old.

OP, you will find out in another week or so. Relax.

My guess is that you have a greater chance of getting hit by a car than getting pregnant at your age.

I know a 47 year old who got pregnant. Odds of getting pregnant and carrying to term are very, very low. Get plan b anyway though.

Totally depends on YOU and your own fertility. There are people who have a hard time getting pregnant at 30 and others who are plenty fertile at 45. If you look at the abortion statistics -- it's not uncommon for a woman in her 40s to be surprised with an oops. I hope things turn out the way you want and that you are smarter next time.

My grandmother got pregnant at 46. Naturally obviously.

This is TMI. Please stop discussing your sex life at work. Also, how can you be 45 and know so little about your body.

I know someone who had surprise twins at 47 and another friend had a surprise baby at 45. That said the chances are slim.

Back in olden times and in third world countries women had children into their 40s. A litter of kids with the youngest and eldest 20-25 years apart.

Statistics in general say that the chances are slim, but what your personal odds are is unknown.
Some people get pregnant in one try and some have to work at it for years. If you have no idea which end of the spectrum you are on, don't take chances in the future.

My grandmother had 15 children, the last when she was 50, so her fertility did not wane when she was getting closer to menopause.

Do you have any bio kids?

I actually did a research paper for my English #101 course a few years back on this very topic.

In the U.S., it has NEVER been documented of a women 45 and over, conceiving a child naturally using her own fertilized eggs, carrying a child to term and giving birth to a healthy baby. Never.

So even if you did get pregnant OP, your chances of miscarrying the child are already at 50 per cent. Then your odds drop at actually carrying it to term.

I wouldn't waste any money on buying Plan B. The Morning After Pill makes you nauseous as heck plus at your age it wouldn't make sense.

Simply not true! There have been MANY healthy babies born full term to over 45 year old women. Just look at what the other posters said!
