As a nondrinker, I can not understand people's need to consume alcohol. Eliminate alcohol consumption and you eliminate many social evils and disease. What is this addiction in our society that makes it impossible for people to give up alcohol? Is it at all possible to have a great party without alcohol. If you need alcohol to enjoy life, maybe something is wrong.
Thoughts? |
I agree OP |
I don't need it to enjoy life. However, it makes it a hell of a lot easier to deal with snooty, holier-than-thou(s) who think they're better than the rest of us. |
I am only a very light social drinker, but would definitely expect alcohol to be served at a party. Lighten up, OP. Alcohol isn't that bad. |
Yes |
+1. Just don't drink. And then shut up about it. |
I don't need alcohol to enjoy life. In fact, there are a lot of things I don't need to enjoy life, that I nonetheless find enjoyable. And they don't harm anybody. So why should give them up? |
OP do you need food to enjoy a party? Alcohol is just a nice to have. Like air conditioning, comfy seats and good food. I enjoy a cocktail every now and then. |
People have different standards for what is fun, OP. People enjoy alcohol for different reasons. There are people who enjoy the buzz in moderation. There are people who are unable to moderate. I like he taste of wine, not all wine, but the wine I like, I enjoy. I don't enjoy soda, or iced tea, or most kinds of beer and liquor. You are treating all people who drink as though they are all addicts. I understand hat you don't drink, so things like the taste of a nice pinot noir or the relaxing effect that often accompanies it are not within your experience.
It's also true that at an adult party, providing alcohol is socially common. Most people are able to moderate their consumption and do not engage in dangerous behavior. |
Today, yes. From dealing with tightwads like you. |
+2 |
Amen. |
Do you eat meat OP? As a non-meat eater, I cannot understand people's needs to consume meat. Eliminate meat consumption and you eliminate many social evils and disease. What is this addiction in our society that makes it impossible for people to give up meat? Is it at all possible to have a great party without serving meat? If you need meat to enjoy life, maybe something is wrong. The difference between you and me is that I would never actually say the above (despite it actually being accurate when phrased the way you did it). I just choose not to eat meat and let people who choose to eat it eat it without me looking over their shoulders passing judgment. I even - GASP - serve it when I have parties because people like it. I guarantee there is something you enjoy (perhaps meat) that others do not and could easily be perplexed by you. So just shut up. |
There are lots of things I don't need that I like to have.
I agree that it is the root of most evils (that and other drugs) but prohibition did not work either. |
Do you consume dairy OP? As a non-dairy eater, I cannot understand people's needs to consume dairy. Eliminate dairy consumption and you eliminate many social evils and disease. What is this addiction in our society that makes it impossible for people to give up dairy? Is it at all possible to have a great taco party without sour cream and cheese? If you need dairy to enjoy life, maybe something is wrong. That was fun... NEXT. |
