I knew the pay would be low, but I was not expecting THIS low. Just over 11 per hour... I do need a job but what I will net after taxes (thanks marriage penalty!) and care for my own kid, from working 30 hours a week, my DH can earn in a Saturday morning doing a little OT. Crazy.
I might take it because I can always keep looking and I am really ready to get out of the house. Now I see - turnover rate must be astronomical. |

Here's the deal - my best friend works at a day care and makes what you do. There is a lot of turnover - she's switched schools 3 times in less than a year. This is because there is a huge lack of professionalism and the women that work at these places are super catty. She works at Montessori schools, too, so however fancy the school is doesn't seem to make a difference in quality of work life or pay.
She calls me nearly every single day crying about how much she hates her job as she's always stuck int he toddlers room and is basically a babysitter. The pay is so low and she can't afford health insurance that the stress is making her sick. Honestly I have no idea how daycare workers make a living and feel terrible for my friend since she even went to a 2 year school for an early education certificate and regrets spending her last TEN years doing this to be making 11 bucks an hour. I would really think about it. |
That SUCKS. And not being able to afford Health Insurance on top of that (ACA has not really improved anything for a lot of people - they can hardly afford the premiums, let alone the high deductibles and copays that come with such plans) REALLY SUCKS. I am so glad that I am not in that situation and I feel for anyone who is. I will still look for other work. This pay is less than half of what I was making before we relocated here - but the location is good, and the childcare discount is good - so compared to what I netted before with my old commute and higher daycare costs, it won't even be a lot worse. |
| Teachers at our daycare have been there 5-25 years. We don't want you. |
| I really feel you get what you pay for and the daycare industry demonstrates this perfectly. |
^ see the cattiness I was describing lol
|
That is fantastic. Must be a good environment there. This was the case at the daycare my daughter attended last year. If it is such a good environment at this job, I might stay too. |
The daycare in question isn't that cheap... And my DD's daycare last year was very cheap, at a church, and was fantastic. |
Isn't this basically the job, though? |
Daycare worker here... Just because the teachers have been there a long time doesn't mean they are happy. Most are stuck there. |
I'm a parent, not a daycare teacher. I love that our daycare protects and respects its staff, even though they don't make much. Id hate for my kid to have a teacher with an attitude like yours. Stay away. |
Lots of unprofessional, catty folks in high paying jobs, too. Just sayin. |
But they aren't stuck at the places with high turnover? |
lololololololol ......... LOLOLOLOLOL |
What attitude? About money? If money shouldn't matter, why aren't you happy to give up your time for 11 per hour for the good of society? |
