Sending kids to school with a cold but no fever?

FCPS parent here.

It is OK to send your child to school if they have a minor cold with no fever?

I know the entrovirus is going around and I am sure what the schools are suggesting.

No. Both so they don't give it to other kids, and also because a kid really needs to rest when they are sick. Adults, too. It's a very bad aspect of our culture that we continue to "go-go-go" when we are sick, just because the demands of our lifestyle/culture push for it.

Agree with PP. I won't send with a horrible cold that kept them up coughing or continually blowing nose. Minor cold yes..they can go on and on. I do the same for myself in terms of work. This isn't daycare. They are going for a reason.

A cough and runny nose are constant. A fever means stay home.

Minor, yes. Not in preschool if s/he has a messy runny nose, but in elementary if they don't have a fever and are feeling ok they go.

Depends on whether the kid is functioning or not. Right now, there are ALOT of kids with runny noses and coughing (mine are) and they are in school... it's RAGWEED season and it's high right now.

There's no reason to keep a kid out of school for allergies or a cold as long as they can pay attention.

Common cold=send your kid to school. Everyone does and you just have to accept it if it makes you angry. If your child isn't feeling up for going to school thats a sign of a bigger illness and they should stay home. Fever= Definitely stay home.

Stop being a lazy and selfish parent and keep your kid home. There are kids/adults with serious medical issues and a common cold could trigger a more serious issue for them. You are extremely selfish.

But I thought Americans were dumb, lazy and underperforming. Isn't that what I'm always hearing about the problems in our schools? By the way, it depends on your school. The school my child currently goes to INSISTS that your child stay home if he or she is sick. The previous school we were at (title one) insisted that nobody missed any days ever.
