Any thoughts?

OP, what are your thoughts?

OP here. I was suprised that Bailey's was on the list of schools less than fully accredited.

I was surprised Kenmore MS was on the list.

.

That surprises me, too.

You must realize NCLB tells you nothing about a school except how many kids attending have risk factors: second language, poverty, special ed,etc.it tells us nothing about the curriculum, the teaching, etc. It is a real estate tool- nothing more.NCLB was designed to,yes, "leave children behind." The kids come in with these risk factor and of course they are below level and yet their grade level curriculum stays the same no matter what- whether they can speak English, whether or not they have learning issues, whether or not they live in crack dens, and they are tested on that grade level with a grade level state test. Of course they do not pass it.
The PARCC test will do the same!

Welcome to the sham of education reform.

Well, because of the way NCLB was set up at the very beginning, a vast majority of schools will be "failing" eventually. They have set impossible goals.

Anyone who understands statistics can tell you that 100% proficiency is impossible.

My daughter's school is improving in reading and math among the Limited English Proficient and financially disadvantaged with the exception of fourth grade reading, which seems to be in a free fall. Fourth grade boys overall also in a free fall for reading. What happens in fourth grade?

The results belie this type of simple determinism, even if they raise other issues about "teaching to the test."

So what happens if kenmore loses its accreditation, can we send our kids somewhere else? Clearly the staff there is going to do nothing but focus on the categories of kids who did poorly.

That's a long way off. It was accredited with warning this year, but could be fully accredited next year. No transfer option for now.

Focus schools comprise 10 percent of Title I schools statewide and are selected on the basis of achievement gaps. Focus schools retain their designation for a minimum of two years unless they are subsequently identified as Priority schools or no longer receive federal Title I funding. The following schools in FCPS have been designated as Focus Schools:  Annandale Terrace Elementary, Bailey's Elementary School for the Arts and Sciences, Herndon Elementary, Hutchison Elementary, Sleepy Hollow Elementary, and Woodley Hills Elementary.

The test became more rigorous.

Jefferson-Houston in Alexandria City has the honor of failing to be accredited for the 3rd year in a row.

Maybe they should have taken the $46M and not built a new school but bribed the students to actually behave and study (don't laugh - the money for grades experiment actually worked a that the high school level )
