I bought this dress for an upcoming special event:
http://tinyurl.com/odnbbpf I rarely wear navy and was unsure what footwear to purchase, but someone recommended that I wear metallic shoes, so I bought these: http://tinyurl.com/qfkpxr9 I have no idea what to wear in terms of jewelry. I was thinking I'd go without a necklace, because the sequined sleeves seem to provide enough ornamentation up top. But do I need a necklace? Just a necklace, or earrings instead, or both? I'm clueless when it comes to choosing jewelry in general, and I'm really confused as to how to work with navy. I typically wear black and silver everything. I'm short and thin, straight blonde hair, brown eyes, very pale/yellow complexion. Any help would be greatly appreciated! |
This is the OP--I'd considered pearls, but I think they won't work with the metallic shoes. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

| if I were to wear this dress, I would pair it with a delicate silver necklace and diamond (cubic zirconia, who are we kidding) studs. I think you would be fine with no necklace however - the neckline is gorgeous. Thin silver bracelet(s) would be nice too. |
LOL on the diamond/CZ. I have some okay-looking fake studs, but are studs preferable to dangling earrings? I can't wear a bracelet, because I have a picking disorder & have zero fingernails (as in chewed down beyond what's considered possible). I don't draw attention to my hands for that reason. |
| Oh, and if you have any links to possible necklaces or earrings, I'd love that! |
| I'd wear several stacked silver bracelets, maybe one with saphires. I have some diamond and saphire earrings that I would wear, but diamond studs or drop earrings would work too. |
| Sapphires sound good...but (a) would it be okay if they were fake (because I'm not buying real jewels for one night), and (b) would it be too matchy-matchy with the navy dress? |
| I would wear dangling earrings and a bracelet - no necklace. Given the metallic shoes and sparkly sleeves, I'd look for rhinestone chandelier earrings and a matching bracelet (like a faux tennis bracelet). I know that sounds cheesy but there are some pretty not too over the top options - personally I'd go into Nordstroms and look in person. Very pretty dress and shoes, by the way! |
| Insomniac pp here. Link to example of earrings: http://m.nordstrom.com/Product/Details/3288557?categoryid=null |
| Dangly earrings and a simple (not statement) necklace. I love that dress! I wish I had an event to wear it. |

I can't tell from the picture if those shoes are silver of gold but they should match the metal in whatever jewelry you pick. Don't do a gold necklace/earrings with silver shoes or vice versa.
And I agree that pearls are the wrong choice. Go with rhinestones. |

Thanks for the link, PP! I bookmarked it. Very pretty earrings!
Thanks for the kind comments re: the dress.
I'd love a link to any sort of necklace that would work. I can't wear a bracelet, unfortunately. The shoes are more of a silvery metallic, so I'm going to stay away from gold. |

I'm the OP--I love these earrings:

No necklace! Not with those sleeves and not with chandelier earrings, which is what I would choose. Bracelet and cocktail ring.

| I don't have any advice, but just wanted to say nice choice OP. Bet you'll look stunning in that dress! |
