Making smoothies ahead of time?

Anonymous
How far in advance can you make a smoothie and have it still taste good? I don't add ice, so I'm not worried about that melting, but it would be nice to make the mess every few days rather than every day...

Does it depend on what kind of smoothie? I might thing that yogurt or milk based ones wouldn't store as well as fruit/veggie based ones, but I haven't tried it.

Can you freeze them?

Maybe you can keep it in the blender and re-blend to freshen it up?

"A 2006 issue of the “Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry” found that between 5 to 25 percent of vitamin C content was lost in cut pieces of kiwi, pineapple, mango, strawberry, watermelon and cantaloupe over a period of six days when the fruits were stored at 41 degrees Fahrenheit. There was also a significant loss of carotenoids." http://www.livestrong.com/article/548978-does-fruit-lose-its-nutritional-value-when-its-blended/

Oxidization causes the loss of nutrients overtime, so making the smoothies ahead of time is not the best option.

I used to make my smoothie every night and I put it in the fridge for my breakfast. I don't have enough time very morning to make it so I decided to make it a night before. I also don't add ice but I use frozen fruits to make it.

I sometimes make "smoothie packs" ahead of time. I put all of the frozen fruit into a Ziploc bag. Then in the morning I throw it in the blender, add almond milk or milk, spinach and protein powder.

To clean, I put a little dish soap and hot water in the blender and blend for a minute. Rinse. Tada. All done.
