None of those schools are leading STEM universities.

They are the leading ones around here with the highest research budgets. Except MIT and Hopkins .

I would consider the top 4 very high STEM institutions. With Illinois champaign

This is misleading bc the acceptance rates includes all instate applicants for all majors. And recruited jocks. Not just the math majors. The valedictorian from Beaver Dam, Wisconsin who will play varsity volleyball and major in early childhood ed is included in that % for Wisconsin. etc

Cal Tech? MIT? Harvey Mudd?

What does "rank of difficulty median composite median SAT verbal and math" mean.

The numbers range from 2330-2700- This has no correlation to SAT scores.

+1. The highest possible SAT score is 2400 (math + verbal + essay). DC's friend got into Michigan (great school!) with SATs of 2100. Michigan's acceptance rate is something like 32%, not 40%. Nor can you say something like, 40% of students admitted to Michigan have SATs of 2700, because nobody can get SATs of 2700. So I don't get these figures.

The numbers might be (average ACT composite score) x 100?

Michigan and Wisconsin are leading universties in Engineerign and Computer Science. It does veyr little to post the acceptance rate at Michigan in Genereal.

iDeoending on what you areapplying for, you apply to a particular program or school. Those acceptance rates will be much lower.

For engineering, Michigan is #7

Also depends on the speciality

For computer science,

http://grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-science-schools/computer-science-rankings?int=983508

Michigan is #13, Wisconsin #11 and Univ of Maryland is #15

That is why it is improtant to look at the programs you are interested, not just the general ranking of the school.

It is the addition of high/low range of median entrance scores math and verbal. 4 numbers.

The 25/75 percentile marker at Michigan is 28-32, so I don't think that's it...

Ohhhh. Ok I get it. I wasn't aware of Minnesota being so selective . Interesting !
