MIL doesn't exactly live a ghetto, but not a good neighborhood. She's surrounded by poors, minorities, illegal Mexicans, rentals where renters change often and sometimes just run off without paying the rent.
I don't know how frequently the police visits. Recently she called the cops because her neighbor and some other man were fighting with an electric drill. She has also mentioned before that the neighbor across the street sells drugs. But she herself has never had anything threatening happen to her. She lives alone and is 75. I feel uncomfortable letting DD spend the night at her house. Am I being paranoid? |
oh horrors, don't let your snowflake aroudn the poors! |
You're being a lot of things. Whether paranoid is one of them is really not your main issue. |
I don't think you're being paranoid. She's your child. If you don't feel comfortable with her spending the night there, then don't let her. It's your decision. |
This. |
I can't get past the first few sentences. Wow. |
This has to be some kind of satire. |
English is clearly not her first language. Are you really that dense? |
The people who passed judgement on OP will probably never let their little ones stay at a place OP described. |
Um, what?? It has nothing to do with English not being her first language. It has to do with the racism and the hatred of the poor. Get it?? ![]() |
I wouldn't let my kids stay in a place with crime. Would I let them stay in a neighborhood with multiple ethnic backgrounds and with people of lower socioeconomic backgrounds? Yes I would. And I have. Two totally different things. |
Yes, in white upper class neighborhoods, there is no crime at all. Nothing criminal ever happens in Bethesda or Cleveland Park. I know because I grew up there, and my parents never fought. Ha Ha. When the neighbor molested me, it was tastefully done. Very, very, tastefully. |
Just curious, do people refer to "poors" or "the poors" IRL, or just on DCUM? Personally, I find it totally horrifying that people would talk this way, but perhaps I'm just not wealthy enough to disdain people who have less money than I do. |
Your child's safety is your top priority. Although crime & violence can happen everywhere, why increase the olds in a neighborhood with a criminal element already there? ( drug dealers were mentioned)
I would NOT let my child spend the night . This has nothing to do with paranoia btw |
I'm not racist, there is a correlation between poverty and crime. |
