| I'm always interested in all of the spin in March and April over the lottery waitlists, as it has been my personal experience over the last eight years that most folks land somewhere within the public school system. Maybe not their first choice, but somewhere acceptable. I know several families who have moved year to year from amongst multiple highly regarded charters and neighborhood schools. Does all of the spring angst really play out in the reality of school starting in September? Were people really completely shut out? |
| We ultimately got into our #6 (just before school started). We initially got into our last choice (#10), our IB DCPS. |
| We got into a good charter with a non-common lottery. Very happy. We only got into our last place lottery spot. |
| We were already in at school we didn't really want to leave, but played for 2 more that we may leave for. Got offered for one but decided to stay at beloved current school. I, for one, LOVED the new lottery. |
| Got child #2 into our beloved OOB school where child #1 attends. Very happy and done with the lottery forever. Very content with our MS and HS paths. |
| Got dc into fourth place choice then got offered space at choices one and two. Enrolled at non common lottery charter after being offered a space first week of school. The new system provided more certainty sooner and I think it worked well. |

Did not get into my IB PK4 (WoTP school); did not get into HRCS (non common lottery). Both with decent WL numbers (mid teens). Had a good private preschool option so it worked out though I would have liked to have saved $$$.
Sort of worried that the HRCS will call us 2 weeks in; it is immersion. |
why are you worried? pull her out even if you dind't get insureance. you will save the next 10 uyrs |
Unless she's planning on bailing on HRCS in favor of WotP DCPS for K, when the spot is guaranteed. I don't begrudge her family from taking advantage of seeing her tax dollars at work, but it just sucks for HRCS to get a bunch of people looking for a free solution until they can go to their IB school. But whatev |
| Which WotP schools weren't able to accommodate all IB kids for PK? |
|
Janney wasn't.
|
Actually, that's not my plan. HRCS is immersion in my native language (that I haven't done a very good job of speaking at home with my kids as I'm not very fluent). It would be amazing for my child to learn the language. But it would be a big shock to the system right now, and she's happily ensconced in her preschool class (which has already started). If the immersion doesn't go well, then yes, we have insurance with our IB K. But I'm more worried about the short-term adjustment. Anyway...it probably won't come to pass regardless. |
| We got nothing in the first round or the second round, so we're sticking with daycare for another year. Can't help but think that the previous system would have been better for us. |
You clearly never went through the previous system. |
You didn't get in anywhere or anywhere acceptable to you? |
