| DC starts kindergarten tomorrow. I'm not worried about the morning bus ride because she gets on the bus and gets off when she arrives at school. however, I'm worried about the afternoon bus home, that she will inadvertently get off at one of the stops before our neighborhood. She is easily distracted and could easily make this mistake. |
| Tell her not to get off the bus until she sees you. The drivers are used to ditzy kids not knowing to pay attention. |
|
In our fcps, on the first day they put yellow tape on the backpacks and yellow head bands on the kinder kids.
The bus will not let those kids go without a parent. None of this was explained beforehand but they had it covered at the school. Find your kid a buddy at the bus stop in the am that can help ease fears. Tell her not to get off unless mommy is there. She or he will be fine. |
| Is there a neighborhood buddy at the bus stop? Someone her same age or even better a bit older? Could you ask this kid to make sure to remind DC to get off at the right stop? |
|
Why can't you drive the poor kid? That's too young to bus it.
Oh let me guess. Your pay check is more important. |
It is nerve wracking but the schools/bus drivers are all over this and make sure the little ones get off at the right stop in the pm and that an adult is there. Try not to worry too much! |

Principal here: all the schools were given yellow tape to put on the kindergartners' backpack strap. This is one of the ways the driver knows who is a kindergartner. Also, the kindergartners are placed in the front during the first weeks of school. The kids should have name tags. The drivers have lists of kids with their name and stop. They are very adamant about making sure every kid has a parent at the stop. If you are not there, the driver will not release. There have been plenty of times that a kindergartner has been returned to school because a parent was not there.
Have a great first day! |
School bus is safer, more environmentally friendly, allows the child to make friends and works for many family's schedules. Why do you drive the poor kid? Oh let me guess, feeling sanctimonious is more important to you than your child's safety, physical or emotional health. |
You are simple... |
I'm not pp and I see why you felt the need to respond. However, claiming that putting them on the bus is better for their health is jumping the shark. |
That's really just a shitty thing to say. |
|
I've seen school buses referred to as "Lord of the Flies on wheels." Too accurate! |
For goodness sake, you could at least drive the kid the first week. This is a young kid. They learn bad things on buses. |
Then, you have way bigger problem than the bus. You need move to a better neighborhood. |
