Guys, every teacher/educator recommends taking the bus from day 1 so that the kids learn the routine. Postponing it a week is actually unhelpful, as your kid gets used to one way and then has to tack and do it another, just as all the supports for the new kids (tape on backpacks, etc.) starts to be pulled back.
If you plan on taking the bus, have them do it from day 1. Sanctomommies, you are just plain wrong. |

There's all kinds of health--including emotional and mental. |
| Don't worry. My kids are in 5th and 8th grades and have NEVER had a problem on the school bus. FCPS. |

I am a SAHM whose 6 yo DD would be pretty upset if I didn't let her ride the bus with her friends the first day. The pride of independence just beams from her face. |
Seriously? my walker is so sad she does not get to ride the bus. |
I am sad my child cannot walk. |
School buses have 1/7 the injury rate due to accidents compared to passenger cars. Yes, avoiding injury is good for your child's health. |

| First day of child riding school bus: 1 hr. late while a lot of parents were waiting in the blazin' heat. No notification as to when they were coming. Child walked off the bus and said "It was horrible." (referring to the long wait for their bus to come pick them up at AAP school to take them to base school for drop off). Hopefully it gets better. My kid started the day at 8:00 and got home at 5:20. He's 8. That's too long of a day. |
