The most toxic person on here is the person who unsuccessfully tries to deflect and defend DCUs shortcomings. Don't listen to that poster. They don't have anything productive to say about DCU. Good or bad. With respect to the former DCU academy director on this podcast here is what you need to know: Look at his resume. Average all around. Very nice person.. but in terms of actual football knowledge, you can find much better talent to run a MLS academy. The problem is that DCU didn't want to invest in real staff so they got people filling these jobs with weaker credentials who basically made the calculation that they would try and use DCU as a stepping stone to something different. No real intention of staying long term because the pay sucks, the organization sucks and the leadership sucks. Everything sucks. The things he says on the podcast are not false with respect to how to produce more pros. The problem is that DCU cannot solve for a lot of these problems without significant investment and they won't do that. So the regions talent doesnt get properly identified, developed or engaged by the club. Everything is just the bare minimum to be credible. They did hire a better Academy Director after this last one. But you can't advance the ball at DCU significantly with no money. That will be true even if they had the best directors in there. So in a nutshell, there is a structural problem at DCU that plagues the academy and that is piss poor leadership that doesn't care about the academy and barely understands how to properly run the club overall. Look at how bad DCUs first team is. It's all just a complete joke. |
Some MLS clubs are just way better equipped to produce pros than others. Their foundation and methodology is just stronger and the investments they have made are positioning for longer term success, modelling European academies. DCU is just not one of those clubs. DCU is one of the worst academies you could attend in the MLS ecosystem. FACTS. Please don't try to advance the, if they all aren't producing high level pros, they are all the same argument. It's like saying the Netherlands and the US are the same at football because they have both never won world cups. Just doesn't work. |
Where are the MLS club academies churning out high level professionals consistently? Stupid analogy with the Netherlands, because they have some of the world's best academies that produce high level professionals consistently. The USA MLS academies do not. Not a single one |

At least DC United doesn't have a racist, homophobic, misogynist as a top executive
"Major League Soccer has suspended Philadelphia Union sporting director Ernst Tanner without pay through June 1, 2026 for violating the policies and standards of professional conduct required of league and club leadership. According to a report by The Guardian, Tanner made use of sexist and anti-gay language in the workplace while also being reported for making racist comments about Black players, coaches and referees. The report revealed that the allegations were made in an MLS Player's Association complaint to the league" |
SAME DUMB QUESTIONS Been answered over and over. Keep trying though. |
How many pros has DCU signed to the first team from the academy in the last 3-4 years? How many players has DCU signed to pro deals for their second team? That answer is easy ZERO. They don't have a second team or MLS next pro team like pretty much ALL other MLS academies. All you need to know. Just focus on DCU. The other MLS academies are in a different league. |
| I thought DCU recently signed Oscar Avilez (16 yr old) to the first team. And I thought i saw that he went to GA and played with the academy team. I could be wrong, but is it allowed for a pro player to play in academy games? |
Another one recently the goalkeeper |
Philly Union knowingly keeping a racist on the payroll and in a leadership role sure is in a different league I'd say |
All the academies with MLS Next Pro teams aren't producing top tier professionals You can name nice to haves and give opinions all day. Bottom line, how many professional players of significance are the MLS academies putting out each year and how much are they making from the sales of these players? |
Shows you how far behind we are as a country. And if the best MLS academies in the US are that far behind, imagine where DCU is and what that means for your son. |
Your interests in saving the lives of other people's kids from failure and a sad life of poverty is quite commendable Fortunately for you, you and yours have made it to the top and with so much success, you're saving the world Tell us again the route your kids took to top tier professional soccer successes |
You're posting an irrelevant question. What is DCU doing? Just focus on them...if you're trying to say none of the academies are producing pros so they are all the same, it's clear that argument is fundamentally flawed. Almost all of the MLS academies are better than DCU. |
Don't want to save the lives of others. Just highlight the realities of a sh#t club for people who want it because people like you try to cloud the narrative and push falsehoods about the quality of DCU and its status. Do what you want with the information. You're clearly hurt because you're in a terrible situation and you didn't realize it before now and you feel exposed. Tough place to be for a parent who is wrapped up in the status of their club as opposed to the actual development of their son. |
When you have no quality, throw mud on everyone else to make yourself look better. Can't defend Philly Union on this but the reality is that this doesn't make DCU any better. Sorry. |
