Bon Appetit names Rose's Luxury best new restaurant in America

Tried to eat there last night. Of course they don't take reservations. We arrive at about 6:00, and were told by the hostess that it would be a 2 to 4 hour wait for a table. I'm afraid that is as close as I will come to eating there. They have made it clear that they don't want my business, so I will happily spend my money elsewhere.

It sounds like a great restaurant, but I'm with the PP. We generally don't go to places that do not take reservations.

It is really great, but even before the article came out there were long waits (you could arrive at say 5 on a weeknight and be seated by 6), but if you can be flexible you can get a drink there or somewhere else along Barracks Row.

How is it clear they don't want your business. You show up at 6 pm on a Saturday night and expected to be seated in what 10 minutes. Typical attitude around here that you are better than everyone else and don't need to wait with the common folk. Why don't you hire someone to get in line at 4 pm and save your spot then you can just roll in when your table is ready.

Lots of restaurants don't take reservations - including some of the more popular in the city, including Komi.

I thought Komi takes reservations. Are you thinking of Little Serow downstairs?

Never said I expected to be seated in 10 minutes, but a 2- 4 hour wait is ridiculous. Refusing to take reservations makes it impossible (or at the very least impractical) for those of us who have to arrange for babysitters and the like for a night out. You deride me for refusing to wait with the "common folk". I would argue that having the luxury to wait 2- 4 hours to be seated for a meal is anything but "common" but is in itself rather elitist- one must be living a life of leisure to dedicate that kind of time to dinner!

I understand that there are many other restaurants that do not take reservations, but also acknowkledge that many outstanding restaurants do (including NOMA, rated as the best restaurant in world) Having a no reservations policy doesn't make a restauarant bad, but it sure doesn't make it great either. I'm sure the food at Rose's is wonderful, and made all the better by the anticipation built over a 4 hour wait.

Just because a place takes reservations (NOMA) doesn't mean you can actually get one. Have you tried getting a reservation here?

Really? That is kind of nuts. It is good and has a better vibe than most dc places, but best in us??

I agree. The no reservations policy is a way to create buzz and and demand. Apparently it worked.

It is hard to believe that DC would have the best rated restaurant in the US.

I love Rose's Luxury! Been there twice. But both times we showed up at least 15 minutes before it opened at 5:30 and stood in line. Now with all the hype you probably have to get there way earlier.

The 2-4 hour wait is new because of Bon Appetit. It will get better again soon after the initial popularity spike wears off.

I love that they don't take reservations. It would be impossible to get a reservation, but now all you have to do is be there right before they open. Obviously they don't need to take them. If they can fill every table with walk-ins all night long, and they can, why risk latecomers and no shows?
