Vegetable spiralizer

Anyone have one of these? I got a paderno recently. It's excellent. Makes summer squashes a cool vegetable. I am late to the veggie noodle trend but I have to say I enjoy this.

We have one and I adore it.

I too have a Paderno . The squash 'noodles' are fantastic.

I cheaped out and got a Gefu Spirelli. I have a hate/ love thing with it. Love the "noodles" though.... I think I going to spring for the Paderno.

Yes, the cleanup is a bear. But the "zoodles" are yummy and so healthy!!

So what else do you make with this besides the noodles?

I use a julienne peeler to make zoodles. Does the same thing, takes no time at all!

What about clean up is a problem? Takes me about 2 minutes.

I don't understand what these are used for. Is it just turning squashes and zucchini into ribbons? What else do you make with it?

PP, ultimately, yes... That's all it does. It's what you do with the veggies that can be a lot of fun. Spiralizing in "noodles" or ribbons changes the texture of a lot of veggies and helps more easily incorporate them into recipes. If you're looking to cut down on carbs, or you have a picky veggie eater, it's a fun way to add stuff. That's really it, in the gist. Ultimately nothing really special, but it's amazing how easy it is to add veggies in when they're more like something else. Our brains are wired to expect certain things (like the shape of pasta) - this helps trick it into things it may not normally like.

I use my veggies as warm pasta, stir-fried, or in cold salads like soba. There's some great blogs around with ideas.

For the record, I'm also really sold on cauliflower rice, so maybe my brain is very trick able. Then again, I love veggies.

Same here!! I now use my Vitamix to chop cauliflower into rice, and it rocks. Stir fried with a bit of oil, garlic and onions with a bit of cheese on top. Yum!

I also have a cheap spiralizer ($15 from Bed Bath & Beyond), and I love it. Great for zucchini and squash pasta. I stir fry it quickly with a bit of oil and spices, use it instead of pasta with whatever sauce we have handy, and I also mix it in with all sorts of other dishes. Just the other day, we I reheated some leftover Pad Thai takeout, and doubled the size of my meal by stirring in some warm (but still a bit crunchy) zoodles. It tasted great!
