| Every kid I know who did Governor's School LOVED the experience. They do a great job of setting it up with structure, but also giving kids a taste of what it's like to be in college dorms, etc. |
+1. Also DC still keeps in touch with friends they met there, and it’s a really supportive group |
Belated congratulations! Hope you enjoyed the program. Would you be able to share your experience getting into the Med program? Did you have a lot of research and medical related activities! |
| Anyone did Humanities last summer could share a bit how the experience was? Someone posted earlier in summer 2023 didn't seem to enjoy and said it was a waste of time... |
| DD did it last summer and thought it was great!! DD’s school doesn’t offer any AP Econ or Psych classes, so she enjoyed learning about those subjects while there. She had a wonderful time and made some wonderful friends. We also think it helped with college admissions, and she is off to an Ivy next year! |
Thanks. Could you share which county/school district your DD is based?

We’re at a private just south of DC! |

Do you mind sharing the stats for getting admitted into this Summer program (Humanities)? My DS is applying for this coming summer also from a private school in VA. It seems private schools are grouped together for application pooling.
We’re at a private just south of DC! |
We’re at a private just south of DC! DC submitted a 4.0 and 1460 PSAT, 1520 SAT as test scores! |
| Any news of results from this year? |
| We were notified on Apr 10 by our school's counselor that DS is accepted into humanities program this summer. The official email will come out next Mon. |
| Any experience with the arts gov school (Virginia)? DC is considering applying in the fall for next summer. |
DD has been accepted to the Governor’s summer language academy. She is supper excited and really looking forward to her first dorm experience on a real college campus this summer. |
| My son attended the summer 2025 Virginia Governor's School World Language Academy for Spanish at Washington and Lee University. He absolutely loved it! The mentors and leaders are fantastic. He loved speaking in Spanish all day, every day for three weeks. They had tons of social interaction, games, and classes. Three weeks away from home with absolutely no electronics is challenging for some but he said after the first day or two everyone fell into the rhythm and didn't miss their phones. This is a character-building program and definitely college application material! |
Are all of the gov schools device-free? Wouldn’t some of the academic ones need laptops? |
