Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS)
+1 million. The only happy people this year were teachers who got an extra week of snow day holidays. |
Bi tc I send my kid to parks dept camps that are fully refundable. But I can't control other people. If 1/3-1/2 the kids and teachers don't show up, it is not meaningful. That may just be my opinion, but it is an opinion shared by many people who have common sense. |
Instead of throwing profanity around a parenting website, why don't you start a petition advocating for your own ideal schedule and see what momentum you get. (Hint--I predict none.) |
Why 8/20? For real? |
It’s not a few people. It’s the last week of summer break before school starts — lots of people are on vacation. |
Because MCPS finally realized that if they want to have all the non-instructional/teacher grading days, professional development days, religious holidays, and a reasonable spring break and Christmas break and some semblance of having snow days and try to hit 180 days of required instructional time, they need to start earlier in August. This schedule change is a good thing. |
\ And 100% of MCPS kids didn't have 180 days of education last year. Something has to change next year. People have 4 months to adjust. |
Yes for real. That’s the superintendent’s recommendation. |
And for once--it's a good one. |
It’s really not, no matter how many times you post to this thread. Most posters here do not agree with you |
Who are you talking to? You might want to see a doctor about that if you think you know who is posting on an anonymous website. You must have delusions of grandeur if you think it's only possible that one person on this thread disagrees with you. |
+1 This. No one has any idea how many people wouldn't send their kids to an 8/20 start date because they have plans they just can't change. But we all know that MCPS had to get a waiver because it failed by several days in providing 180 days of instructional time last year. |
Pot, kettle? Notice how until really this afternoon no one was arguing this was a good thing |
Dp. As I said, hopefully the survey results will be public so we can have some actual numbers on what people prefer vs relying on anonymous posts. |
No, I didn't notice anything-because I don't spend all day, every day on DCUM. Maybe you shouldn't either. It seems to be bad for your mental health. |
