These new people are running to replace absolute horrific destructive at large school board members like Omeish, Gamarra, and Heizer all who are not running because they did such a poor job. The new women are easily better than the current board and offer a new direction. That's all they need to be.

I agree that the Omeish, Gamarra, Cohen, and most of the school board were awful. I don't want to vote for any Dems. I'm over the perpetual gender ideologies, religious holidays, and virtue signaling. That said, I've read up on the R candidates listed and most appear to be hard core Trumpers who support school vouchers. In the case of Priscilla Destafano, she has her kids in private school and not FCPS, which rubs me the wrong way.

All the FCPS candidates are terrible.

Brody was a graduate of FCPS and had five children go through fcps. I think she can handle the job. Anyone with that much experience with the schools gets my vote over someone with no kids in the schools or any kids.

Brody, the white supremacist groupie who was teargassed when she stormed the Capitol?

Yeah, I guess she's tough.

I'm VERY happy to discuss real issues that don't involve using LGBTQ kids as pawns. You'll need to convince the Moms for Liberty types to drop it.

That the GOP wants to turn schools into Praeger-like Christofascism academies is good enough for many folks.

Alternatively, they want to drive the public schools into the ground so they can push for vouchers to subsidize their kids' private schools.

That sounds like DCUM in a nutshell.

Please. Homeschooling curriculum companies and private schools are grateful for what the local dems have done for them.

If republicans get back into power and get the school system performing the way it did when they had the majority, it will be a sad day for Potomac, O’Connell and Abeka lol.

That is a very good point.

What I have not heard from any of the D candidates is a pledge to restore the focus on academics which once took precedence in our - dare I say - educational system? It is all just more of the same “equity! Safe-space! trans-kids!” - just like the current board.

Maureen Brody was TEAR GASSED on January 6th during the riots. On what planet do you think that’s the type we need on the school board??

The people who are on the board now aren't even running again, they are that unpopular. The bar is low. I don't think these are the greatest people, but unless we get more balance on the board, no one remotely logical will want to run. Who wants to sit on a board with reasonable thought and have a board think they are too far right for something like textbooks in the classroom? There has to be some balance in order for there to be divergence of thought. The people on the board now are extreme. The people running on the democratic side are extreme. It's not about each of them. it's about restoring some balance.

You can’t get a reasonable balance with nutters.

Look at what the nutters in Congress are doing right now. They aren’t going to fix anything, only make things worse.

I disagree. They can stall radical change and eventually bring in people more reputable. FCPS is headed in the wrong direction academically for all students. It's affecting the local economy and affecting our students well being. Even the lgbtq ones aren't doing better because of their radicalization. A balanced board will eventually bring balanced people.

A balanced school board needs a balanced population. Election is people's choice. Voters will
have to swallow all the consequences. I will be surprised if any conservative candidates win in Fairfax. Let's wait and see.

The board of supervisors mase sure that won't happen when they switched the agreed upon redistricting map a few hours before the deadline, chopping the Sprinfield district into several pieces. The most stable population area contained all but 2 of the redestricted areas, making things less convenient for the constituents just to eliminate the last moderate in Fairfax County.

This was the most open redistricting process ever. I drew my own map and submitted it. Springfield had to lose precincts because it’s population decreased.

Anyone could submit a map but the boundary they redrew for the Springfield magisterial district was intended to help Cohen (before she decided to run for state office) and hurt Herrity. Democrats gerrymander, too.

That really isn’t true though. Springfield was the only district that lost residents so they had to make cuts.

It was not the smallest district and deviations from the average are permitted. Fact is they moved more precincts in and out of Springfield than any other magisterial district, did so at the last minute, and did so with the goal of weakening Herrity.

I just checked Robyn Lady’s site you linked, and all her campaign promises, since my kids go to FCPS schools in Dranesville. And in Dranesville, we have seen exactly what SB campaign promises are worth (ie - nothing).

Specifically, I noticed her promises:

“ Fully fund competitive salaries and benefits for all employees, especially teachers.”

- except, she left out HOW. She likely means: raise the already high tax rates on FFX residents. She did not mention cutting any of the many wasteful pet-projects and boondoggles created by the current Board, which is exclusively run by her own party;

“ Support FCPS' transition to literacy instruction grounded in the science of reading with ongoing professional development and appropriate learning materials.”

- notice how she left out the science-backed, and traditionally successful method: phonics? Some FCPS schools under the current all-democrat board use discredited non-phonics based approaches, which do not work.

“Support staffing ratios that account for the different proficiency levels for English Language Learners.”

- again, she left out where all the money will come from for her plan, or how she will address the massive projected increase. Does she not understand FFX county is among the top 5 destinations for people illegally crossing our southern border? Does she not know the recent average of 7,000 new people PER DAY are simply walking into the US, many with young children? Does she not know her own party is not doing anything to slow these new entries? I am in favor of helping people, but what about my own kids education here?.

Kyle's page is more of what the current school board focusses on. No thanks. Are his daughters in FCPS? Doesn't say. The other ones are fine, but are they going to be able to actually pull away from their party to vote differently? I'm more interested in getting diversity on the board.

None of them actually talk about any of the current problems with the school system and how to fix them.
