Lordy.

We all know how some socialist leftists have convinced democrats that the compassionate thing to do for struggling children is to administration chemicals with serious long term consequences and mutilate their genitalia.

Heaven forbid we allow these effeminate boys and masculine girls (in other words, gender nonconforming children) to grow into gay and lesbian adults— or non-stereotypically masculine/feminine straight/ bisexual adults, and a few trans.

No, let’s administer them pills and chop off their body parts while they are still too young to grasp the long term consequences.

Surely local dem leadership can point to responsible stewardship of tax dollars and focus on academic standards instead of complaining that the “other side” is against teenage genital mutilation as a reason to vote blue?

“Socialist leftists” like the AAP, APA, AMA?

No one is pushing for kids to surgically transition. It’s really a decision for kids and their doctors.

And there is a difference between gender identity and sexuality. Very telling that you conflate the two.

The only people bringing up gender issues are the Rs. The rest of us think it’s not important for the school board election.

Stop using LGBTQ kids as pawns for your political games.

“Appeal to authority” doesn’t work on me.
Wrong is wrong, and the local dems are gigantic screw ups regardless of your fear mongering.

This actually isn't true. There are many people in school helping kids make lgbtq decisions not realizing the mental health challenges that go along with them or knowing the kids well and causing long term harm as a result. A lot of people who mean well who have no idea what they are doing and don't have the bandwidth to help out in any depth. The current school board definitely politicized these issues which led to a push back at the state level. That library advertising lgbtq books being one of these groups of people. You can't place the blame of this issue on just one party.

Surely local dems can point to more than “we make sure children can access explicit books at school” as a reason why we should vote for them?

That the GOP wants to turn schools into Praeger-like Christofascism academies is good enough for many folks.

No, the books were politicized by conservative parents in Texas and Virginia.

No one was talking about them until these nutters started spreading lies about the books.

Like you said, wrong is wrong.

Do the Democrats announce they're Democrats? If so, it would certainly make it easier to know who not to vote for.

They do. I want the Republicans to do the same thing so I know not to vote for them! But they are too ashamed to announce they’re Republicans.

Every candidate on the ballot has “nonpartisan” next to their name.
https://ballotpedia.org/Fairfax_County_Public_Schools,_Virginia,_elections_(2023)

both candidates in my district are endorsed by their respective parties. Karl Frisch will tell us proudly that he’s a Democrat. But the Republican calls himself an “independent” despite him being a member of the Fairfax GOP and endorsed by them. At least the Dems don’t try to lie.

If you really wanted to be an “independent” you wouldn’t apply for the endorsement of either party. (Note: there is a candidate for at-large who is truly an independent and didn’t apply for either party’s endorsement).

Yes, and next to no one knows who that candidate is, and he has zero chance of winning. Given how much money the FCDC and its patrons can throw around to support the candidates they endorse, I don’t begrudge other candidates for seeking a GOP endorsement as a lifeline. It’s the only realistic shot they have at breaking through.

I don’t blame them if they want to seek the GOP endorsement. But they should then tell us they’re Republican instead of lying and calling themselves independent.

I don't know why you think the current school board is anything to admire that any new person has to overcome. The current board has very little substance beyond having a political background. These new people are running to replace absolute horrific destructive at large school board members like Omeish, Gamarra, and Heizer all who are not running because they did such a poor job. The new women are easily better than the current board and offer a new direction. That's all they need to be.

Maureen Brody was TEAR GASSED on January 6th during the riots. On what planet do you think that’s the type we need on the school board??

The people who are on the board now aren't even running again, they are that unpopular. The bar is low. I don't think these are the greatest people, but unless we get more balance on the board, no one remotely logical will want to run. Who wants to sit on a board with reasonable thought and have a board think they are too far right for something like textbooks in the classroom? There has to be some balance in order for there to be divergence of thought. The people on the board now are extreme. The people running on the democratic side are extreme. It's not about each of them. it's about restoring some balance.

You can’t get a reasonable balance with nutters.

Look at what the nutters in Congress are doing right now. They aren’t going to fix anything, only make things worse.

I disagree. They can stall radical change and eventually bring in people more reputable. FCPS is headed in the wrong direction academically for all students. It's affecting the local economy and affecting our students well being. Even the lgbtq ones aren't doing better because of their radicalization. A balanced board will eventually bring balanced people.

A balanced school board needs a balanced population. Election is people's choice. Voters will
have to swallow all the consequences. I will be surprised if any conservative candidates win in Fairfax. Let's wait and see.

The BOS is not all D. You know that, right?

Pat Herrity is a reasonable guy. Cyndy Walsh is a nut job.

The board of supervisors mase sure that won't happen when they switched the agreed upon redistricting map a few hours before the deadline, chopping the Sprinfield district into several pieces. The most stable population area contained all but 2 of the redestricted areas, making things less convenient for the constituents just to eliminate the last moderate in Fairfax County.

This was the most open redistricting process ever. I drew my own map and submitted it. Springfield had to lose precincts because it’s population decreased.

Anyone could submit a map but the boundary they redrew for the Springfield magisterial district was intended to help Cohen (before she decided to run for state office) and hurt Herrity. Democrats gerrymander, too.

I agree that the Omeish, Gamarra, Cohen, and most of the school board were awful. I don't want to vote for any Dems. I'm over the perpetual gender ideologies, religious holidays, and virtue signaling. That said, I've read up on the R candidates listed and most appear to be hard core Trumpers who support school vouchers. In the case of Priscilla Destafano, she has her kids in private school and not FCPS, which rubs me the wrong way.

All the FCPS candidates are terrible.

Brody was a graduate of FCPS and had five children go through fcps. I think she can handle the job. Anyone with that much experience with the schools gets my vote over someone with no kids in the schools or any kids.

Brody was at January 6.

From the prolific use of "nutters" it appears there is one very left wing activist who is dominating most of this thread, who wants to keep the convo on politics and trans advocacy, and as far as possible from any discussion of academics and facility management.

No, it wasn't.

They had selected a map every supervisor agreed upon, because it matched census patterns.

Then, the last night a few hours before tge dealine, McKay switched the map to one requiring the Springfield district to take all but a couple of the redistricting neighborhoods, in spite of the Springfield district having the fewest census changes in all of Fairfax County.

22152 was split into 3 districts, in spite of most of those areas being walkable to the district offices.

It was not a transparent redistricting.

It was 100% political.
