Only the high school starts late on Wednesday. They do the two hour late start, all school, usually two to three times a year for teacher development.

They should be getting weekly reminders on how *not* to hire pediphile teachers. And how to recognize the red flags of any potential current pediphile staff.

On what basis? Did he get a new judge or something? The one he had didn’t seem so lenient.

his prelim hearing is march 3. he was likely unsafe in prison -- there are reports that he was physically threatened by other inmates.

Yeah, that’s what inmates do to pedophiles. They all know child rapists are the worst of all criminals. But I doubt that many of them get to go home. Privilege matters.

+1. Small community, Baltimore.

what happens at the preliminary hearing?

The court will usually set filing and discovery deadlines, schedule a trial date, etc.

Upon much reflection, I believe the following is the only solution for certain schools:

Schools with recent, repeated and consecutive revelations of assault on students by teachers (or other employees) must immediately forbid all employees from being alone with any student under any circumstances.
The only exception might be if the school has on file a written request signed by both the student and parents indicating the specific reason for a private encounter/relationship between the teacher and the student.
The school employee must also sign a document stating that there will be no grooming or sexual contact. There can be a footnote detailing grooming behaviors, in case a pedophile wants to claim ignorance. One copy goes to the school and another copy goes to the student and the parents.

This may seem a bit extreme, but who has a better option? Having the school personnel get training and promising to be more vigilant has already failed. Students absolutely can not continue to get raped by their teachers. The lifelong damage that has been perpetrated on the students is horrific.

Parents have every right and responsibility to demand that their children are not exposed to teacher pedophiles who want to rape their children. School administrators must finally be held accountable, or this atrocity will continue.

Gilman outright failed to report rumors of faculty giving the boys alcohol. They can absolutely be sued for that. They have a legal obligation to report anything like that. Talk with your sons, people, even if they were former students there. This can easily escalate into a huge lawsuit and payouts, considering the perp was there for 15 years.

How can you prove they knew rumors of faculty giving the boys alcohol?

I imagine you’ll find out soon enough. It’s not that hard.

At the bottom of this article it say decades of sexual abuse has been investigated at the school, from 1950-2008.
Awful and how is it still a school?

At least they made the effort to document it. I graduated from a DMV girl’s school that swept all cases under the rug, and there are many

Please don't follow in it's footsteps, can you tell us which school?

Crickets. Probably didn’t happen if they can’t answer.

What kills me is that the gilman middle school is proceeding with overnight field trips and international spring break trips with faculty chaperones. No way would I send my kid away with faculty when one of them had recently been accused of this. No way.

You are a nut. No, every teacher there is not a rapist because one was. Teachers are not actually fungible bots. It’s wrong to tar them all with the same brush.

For what it’s worth, I am a Gilman parent and talk to lots of other Gilman parents, and in real life I don’t know anyone who feels this way. Just a couple of fixated DCUM posters here with their own axes to grind.

I have to agree with this. You’re never going to let your kid go on an overnight trip? How about sleep away camp? Luckily most teachers, counselors aren’t rapists.

Up until six weeks ago the pedophile was scheduled to be a chaperone on one of those trips. So, I'm not sure you get to be sanctimonious about this. If you aren't concerned about your school's ability to protect your sons, you should be. Gilman harbored a seriously questionable dude for years and no one said a word. I don't know why - victims too scared/embarrassed to talk or school intentionally turned a blind eye - but in either case, a culture like that will continue to be unsafe until the culture changes...which doesn't happen in six weeks.

So if you have a son there, don’t let him go on field trips. Your incessant posting here to hand-wring is useless and irritating.

Agree, and this person doesn’t have a son at Gilman. That much is obvious.

I agree PP seems over the top but consider perhaps s/he has a son/nephew/grandson who was a victim or was close friends to a victim. We are in this position and believe me, nothing seems over the top once you realize how close the abuse hit.

I'm sorry. I greatly appreciate the victim(s) who came forward, because they are preventing future victims.

Tomorrow, May 3rd, there is a Hearing Motion on this case.
